Domain Assignment

Domain Assignment: Students will prepare an activity that focuses on the developmental
of a specific developmental domain.

1. Summary or Description of Activity

Domain: Cognitive (math/number sense)
Materials: Worksheets with hand cut-outs and number problems (enough for each
student), and pencil.
Summary: Students will work individually to complete a worksheet and solve problems
that all have a sum of ten. In order to solve the problems they will count/bend down the
fingers on the hand cut-outs.
2. Age of Child/Type of Group for Activity:
Age: Kindergarten (5-6 years)
Type of Group: individually
3. Connection to a Developmental Benchmark or Standard:
TEKS: Kindergarten (math)
(4) The primary focal areas in Kindergarten are understanding counting and cardinality,
understanding addition as joining and subtraction as separating, and comparing objects by
measurable attributes.
(A) Students develop number and operations through several fundamental concepts.
Students know number names and the counting sequence. Counting and cardinality lay a
solid foundation for number. Students apply the principles of counting to make the
connection between numbers and quantities.

(B) Students use meanings of numbers to create strategies for solving problems and
responding to practical situations involving addition and subtraction.
(1) Mathematical process standards. The student uses mathematical processes to acquire
and demonstrate mathematical understanding. The student is expected to:
(C) select tools, including real objects, manipulatives, paper and pencil, and technology
as appropriate, and techniques, including mental math, estimation, and number sense as
appropriate, to solve problems.
4. What you learned, what questions you still have:
Learned: I learned specifically what a domain activity is and that it can be physical,
cognitive, and social/emotional. I also realized that pretty much any activity can be used
as a cognitive activity. In this specific activity I used math and number sense as my
cognitive activity.
Questions: I do not really have any questions about this assignment.
Example:

(Note: my version will have blanks in the problems ex. 1+___=10)
