Dear Ms. Berthet:
Thank for you for your correspondence of October 10, 2014 requesting a study for
Protected Crosstown Bicycle Lanes in Midtown Manhattan. Please accept my apologies
for the delay.
‘The New York City Department of Transportation is committed to improving the
safety and efficiency of New York City’s streets and works with community boards to
bring bicycle facilities in their neighborhoods. DOT is currently exploring the potential
for crosstown protected bicycle lanes in Midtown Manhattan. As you ate well aware,
large vehicle volumes, curbside access needs and network connectivity are challenges
faced in designing this type of bicycle facility in this area of the city. We are currently
evaluating the feasibility of such improvements as DOT continues to expand and upgrade
the bicycle network.
‘Thank you for your interest in this matter.
Sincerely,
Mp
