Day Four Cue Sheet

Pamplona – Estella (52.1 km)

Today’s route follows the footpaths of untold millions of pilgrims who have wound their way westward to Santiago
de Compostela for centuries. The villages along today’s ride are well-equipped to provide for travellers, but to avoid
problems with the walkers (who don’t appreciate having to share narrow paths with bicycles), it’s safer and faster to
stay on the roads.

Day Four Cue Sheet
PAMPLONA – ESTELLA (36.2 km)

MEETING POINT: Plaza Consistorial, Pamplona.

WHERE TO GET FOOD AND WATER:

Most of the towns along the Camino have supermarkets and fountains. It’s
worth taking a picnic breakfast up to Alto del Perdón (km 18) for an
unforgettable rest stop!

HOW TO GET THERE:

There is no train service to Estella. Four buses per day (six on Sundays)
run between Pamplona and Estella. For timetables, check
www.autobusesdenavarra.net.

KEEP IN MIND:
Unless you’re on a double-suspension mountain bike and it hasn’t rained in
weeks, DO NOT TAKE the Camino de Santiago walker path between
Puente la Reina and Mañeru. Use the highway instead. Most of this day’s
riding takes place away from the main Camino route. If you choose to ride
the Camino path, use your bell to warn walkers.

WHAT TO SEE:
You cannot leave Estella without visiting the delightfully atmospheric
th
Iglesia de San Pedro de Rúa, built in the 12 century, which still
preserves many of its architectural elements. Across the street, the local
Gustavo de Maetzu museum is housed in the handsome Palacio de los
Duques de Granada de Ega. (And the tourist office is right next door!)

WHERE TO SLEEP
Camping Lizarra (948 551 733) can be reached from the route by taking
c/Lizarra from the N111a. If you prefer to stay in Estella’s youth hostel,
follow the N111a through town to the first roundabout, and turn right onto
c/Monasterio de Irache, going uphill to the end.)
