The Armor of God

Dealing With the Devil

• Oppressed—katadunasteuo kata—
down; dunastes—a potentate;
dunamai—to have power. It is used as
a participle so it represents not just a
one time act but the very nature of
satan. It means it is a power that
comes down hard with the idea of
dominating, manipulating, or controlling
• Devil---this is a proper name but also
describes his nature and his work. Diabolos.
• Compound word—Dia—the idea of
penetration, in other places it is used as the
word through. The second part is bolos—to
throw like a rock or a ball. The name he wears
describes how he comes to us and just hurls
at us to hit us, again and again and keeps
throwing UNTIL he gets THROUGH and
penetrates your mind, your life with one of
these thoughts, lies or deceptions.
• The “strong man” met a “stronger man”
• Isa. 49:24 Shall the prey be taken from
the mighty, or the lawful captive
delivered?
• 25 But thus saith the LORD, Even the
captives of the mighty shall be taken
away, and the prey of the terrible shall
be delivered: for I will contend with him
that contendeth with thee, and I will save
thy children.
• Two basic ways satan operates:
– Intrusion
– Legal Access
– A. Intrusion– “the act of pushing or thrusting
in; the act of coming in without being asked
or wanted. Satan uses ANY disturbance or
conflict, to try and get you to miss what God
intends for your life. In order to oppose
God’s work satan is the master of
distractions and interruptions!
• Five primary strategies:
– 1. Lies and deception
– 2. Accusation and condemnation
– 3. Doubt, fear, and unbelief
– 4. Battlefield of the mind
– 5. Attacking the Word of God
– If satan has intruded into your life—shut the
door! RESIST the devil and he will flee! Your
resistance is dependent on not losing focus.
Handling Intrusion

• Use it as a means of FOCUS! 1 Thes 5:16

Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in
everything give thanks; for this is the will of God
in Christ Jesus for you.
• Submit to God, resist satan and get your mind
right. James 4:7-10 So let God work his will in
you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him
scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he'll be
there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your
inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and
cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over.
Get serious, really serious. Get down on your
knees before the Master; it's the only way you'll
get on your feet.
• B. LEGAL ACCESS
– 1. Ep.4:27 nor give place to the devil.
– 2. Ro. 6:16 Do you not know that to
whom you present yourselves slaves
to obey, you are that one’s slaves
whom you obey, whether of sin
leading to death, or of obedience
leading to righteousness? You are
the servant of your choice.
– 3. FIVE OPEN DOORS:
• 1. Disobedience
• 2. Unforgiveness
• 3. Emotional Trauma
• 4. Inner vows and judgments
• 5. Curses
