Liliuokalani (Please write answers on a separate sheet of paper)

Kalakaua's sister Lydia Liliuokalani was the last Hawaiian monarch.

A strong nationalist, Liluokalani tried to replace the Bayonet Constitution with one
which would favor native Hawaiians. Her constitution would do away with the need to
own property to vote and would deny the right to vote to any people who were not
Hawaiian citizens.
1. What change did Liliuokalani make to the constitution?
Then, cabinet ministers she had appointed refused to sign her constitution! That

sentenced to death, but saved by intervention of the U.S. government.8. Why is

Firearms were discovered buried in the queen's flower garden, and she was arrested. For
eight months she was held prisoner in one room of the Iolani Palace. 9. Why was the
Queen arrested? She was charged with misprision of treason (knowing about treason
and not reporting it). 10. What crime was she charged with? The queen was found
guilty and sentenced to a $5,000 fine and five years of hard labor. The sentence was not
carried out, however. She abdicated in 1895.Which means she gave up the throne 11.
