ACTIVITY 5

1. Author/Theory discussed: we are planning an activity which follows the

Montessoris methodology.
- Maria Montessori always connects the theory with reality, so students
will paint bones in their own body so it will not just be a memorising
process.
- We will let children reach an agreement on how they want to do the
activity to foster the childrens autonomy according to Montessoris
method.
- According to Maria Montessoris methodology, experimentation is highly
important in the learning process. So, thats why in out activity students
will have to experiment and manipulate bones in order to learn them
and know where they are located in our bodies.
- Also, doing this activity we will get that the learning process is
entertaining and with that make children more willing to learn.
2. Title: How am I built?
3. Activity 5:
The activity consists in different parts. Firstly the teacher is going to show a
video about how are we build inside us to make the students think about it and
associate the concepts named on it with the exercise. Secondly, the material
will be presented in order to start the activity. They will have a puzzle of a
skeleton, cardboard, markers and waxes. After presenting the material,
according to the Montessori methodology, they will talk all together how they
were dividing the class and how they would carry on the activity. After it they will
be given the material and they will go to wherever of the class to start the
project. They will be completely free at the time of doing the activity, choosing
the place where they will work It is important to make the conscious that they
will be free, but this means that they will must be responsible also, if not, they
wont be free anymore.
The idea of this activity is to build up the puzzle according to the name of the
bones, after it draw a silhouette on the cardboard and draw the different bones
on it and after it draw the bones on the skin of the students in order to see if the
reality corresponds to the concepts explained.
4. Objectives for this activity
o Achieve childrens knowledge through experimentation, it is important to
understand why.
o Make the learning process as exciting as possible, always trying to
encourage children to learn more and more...
o Explain concepts to students, is not filling our knowledge into their brain
is sharing new things with them.
o Make the students capable to work without the teacher as a guide.
o Associate concepts to reality (going from abstract to concrete).
o Give them freedom and responsibility to make them be more
autonomous.
5. Materials needed
In order to meet the objectives we will need a skeleton puzzle from the Montessori
School to follow their philosophy and methodology. Moreover, we will need some
cardboard and markers to draw the bones on it and waxes to draw the bones on
their skin.

6. Methods:
Class distribution: in this activity we will work in pairs.
o Time and Space:
For how long this topic will be taught? During a session of one
hour.
Where are you planning to locate the work done? This activity
requires a huge space. They will need a spacious place where
they could develop the activity in a way that each group could
work in their own space.
7. Evaluation:
How are you going to evaluate each of the activities? According to the Montessoris
methodology, the activity will NOT be evaluated. These schools do not give
importance to the final marks, there are no wrong answers, they emphasize on the
learning process. However, they will have the possibility to consult the control of
error if they have doubts during the construction of the puzzle.
In spite the fact mentioned a few lines above; the teacher is going to control
different aspects:

8. Self-criticism:
o We know for sure that this method works in small groups but we dont
know if it works in a normal class (the number of students increase
regarding to the other class)
o

If we could have more material like a skeleton per person in order to let
every child work in the way that results more comfortable and effective.
