Learning Theories and Instructional Design Models:

Constructivism
The autobiography photo story allows students to construct their own knowledge, problem
solve, and use traditional research methods and essay writing in a non-traditional form.
Students will reflect on personal experiences to support their learning and make connections to
what they have learned, and apply it to other learning contexts, and situations. This approach
will help students improve their research and writing skills. This approach will also encourage
and aid students in their communication skills (listening, and speaking). Visual representations
will be created by students using multi-media tools in the form of Popplet, digital photographs,
microphones, and Photo Story for Windows.
Multiple Intelligences
This unit appeals to a variety of learning styles by presenting materials in a variety of ways to
facilitate effective learning. This unit will address Verbal-Linguistic, Musical, Visual-Spatial,
Interpersonal, and Intrapersonal Intelligences.

Examples of Instructional Activities:

Teacher will demonstrate the use of Popplet to create a mind map for the
autobiography and ask students to use the link provided in their online classroom
platform Edmodo to create their own and print.
Students will use their mind map created from Popplet to guide them through the
process of creating their autobiography.
Students will take pictures using a digital camera and construct an All About Me
photo story using Windows Photo Story 3.
Students will use upload audio and digital images to their photo story.
When the photo story is complete, students will upload their final presentation to
the classroom blog provided on Kidblog.org
