ACTION RESEARCH TITLE: USING SUBSTITUTION TABLE TO HELP ESL LEARNERS IN
CONSTRUCTING SIMPLE SENTENCE
SCHOOL: SK LAMBIR, MIRI
RESEARCH FOCUS: In this study, I want to focus on improving pupils’ writing in constructing
simple sentence.
PROBLEM STATEMENT (s):
1. The influence of L1 language (native language) in constructing simple sentence in the
English language
2. Learning grammar is undoubtedly complicated and at times difficult.
ACTION RESEARCH QUESTION (S):
1. How do I use substitution table to improve Year 3 pupils in constructing simple
sentences?
2. Does substitution table help pupils to construct simple sentences with correct grammar?
ACTION PLAN/ STRATEGY:
1. Substitution – teach simple sentence structure ( Subject + Verb + Predicate)
2. Pictures – ask pupils to write simple sentences based on pictures. Pupils will write
simple sentences by using substitution table as their guidance.
3. Worksheet- Pupils write their own simple sentences based on the substitution table
provided

5. Behaviorism theory (drilling )
