Third Grade Religious Education - Our Life with Jesus


Goals

Participants will have been read to and understand Sacred Scripture as God's Word
speaking to them.

Participants will know and understand the basic teachings of the Church and how they
apply to their lives.

Know and appreciate the centrality of the Eucharist and importance of the Sacraments in
the life of Catholics. Participants will experience and appreciate a variety of prayer
forms in addition to the prayer of the sacraments. Prayer Experience and appreciate a
variety of prayer forms in addition to the prayer for the Sacraments. Know how to
develop a personal relationship with God.

Engage in service to and exercise responsible stewardship for the various communities to
which they belong: family, school, parish, civic, national, and global. Understand the
role of faith community the Catholic Church into which they have been baptized and
through which they grow in faith to mature discipleship and will know what it means to
have membership in the local, universal Catholic Church.

A. Sacred Scripture Participants will have been read to and understand Sacred Scripture as
God's Word speaking to them.
a. Recognize the list of Hebrew Scripture (Old Testament) books and the list of New
Testament books in the index of a Bible.
b. Describe the Old Testament as writings about Gods relationship with His chosen
people, the Hebrews.
c. Describe the New Testament as writings about Jesus who shows us how to love
God and others.

d. Locate passages in the Bible according to books, chapters, and verses.


B. Doctrine & Spirituality Participants will know and understand the basic teachings of the

healing
iv. Discuss how Eucharist helps us remember and be thankful for the life,
death, and Resurrection of Jesus
v. Participate in the celebration of the liturgical seasons of Advent,
Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, and Ordinary Time

D. Prayer Participants will experience and appreciate a variety of prayer forms in addition

a. Demonstrate appropriate and respectful participation during liturgy and/or prayer
service.
b. Read an example of scriptural prayer

d. Describe the purpose of the Stations of the Cross
Collaborative and Project-based Learning
In this course, leaners will exercise collaborative and project-based learning. In a
classroom environment it is imperative that learners are in a collaborative atmosphere. They will
need to rely on other individuals for group projects (such as: off campus community service
projects). In addition, group assessments are given to help learners learn the importance of
collaboration. Learners are also interact with real world scenarios and actively participate in the
celebration of the Mass.
Instructional Strategies and Activities
Leaners will be exposed to various strategies including, but not limited to lectures,
discussions, self-reading, writing, group projects, and independent study. Lectures given in form
of Scripture and explanations will be shared with each learner. These lectures will open the
learners up to limitless discussions and reflections with themselves and others. Additional
reading material through Biblical passages for self-reading. Worksheets with True or False,
Matching, and Essay questions will help them explore the writing elements of this course. Each
learner will be assigned a group to work with throughout the course. Their projects will include
community service: nursing home visits, youth group participations, food drives, Christmas

program, etc. Students will also be required to write an end of semester review based on their
course studies and independent study.
Instructional Technologies
During this course the following technologies will be utilized: Internet, images,
animations, videos, audio and video, computers, mobile devices, projectors, whiteboards, and
computer-aided assessments.
