OBJECTIVES
At the end of the activities, students should be able to:

1. Explain that pressure increases as the temperature of a fixed amount


of gas in a sealed container (constant volume and number of
molecules) increases.
2. Describe that pressure increases as the volume a fixed amount of air is
allowed to occupy decreases (at constant temperature). This is Boyles
law.
3. Relate the concepts of gas laws to real world applications

PROCEDURE
a) Routinary Act Prayer, greetings, class attendance, daily protocols
b) Activity
A. Qualitative treatment of Volume pressure relationship
1. Observe qualitative relationship between gas volume and pressure at constant
temperature. Follow these steps:
a. fill a syringe with air by pulling the plunger up.
b. press you finger against the end of the syringe in order to trap air.
c. Push the plunger in. try again, but press harder this time.
Motivation: What do you think would happen if this were done with water? With ice? Try
it.
Question 1: what do you observe?
Question 2: is the trapped air in the syringe affected by the added pressure as you
pressed down the plunger of the minimal force?
Question 3: how do you relate the pressure to the volume or compressibility of air in the
syringe?

c) Analysis
1. What are the Gas Laws?

2. what are the relationship between pressure, volume, temperature in each of the gas
laws?
d) Application
Discussion of the gas laws.
Provide sample problems for each gas laws to be discussed.
e) Abstraction
-call a student for recap of the things they learn about the topic.

requirement is needed?
2. a 600 ml sample of nitrogen is heated from 27 C to 77 C. what is the final volume?
3. A pressure cooker with an initial pressure of 1 atm and an initial temperature of 373 K. What is
is the pressure if the temperature is raised to 473 K?

Asked the students to answer this problem and place their solutions on a 1 half sheet of
paper.
1. The volume of a given gas was 60 cm at 27 c. after heat was applied to the gas, its
volume increased to 70 cm. if the pressure was held constant, what is the new
temperature of the gas?
