Brake fluid tester how it works?


Brake fluid testers are used in most automotive service shops just so the
automotive tech can show the copper/water contamination inside their brake fluid.
Brake fluid is a hydroscopic fluid (meaning it is attracted by water). The way your
brake fluid works is it works as a hydraulic fluid which when the driver of the
automobile pushes down on the brake the master cylinder pushes the brake fluid
through to all 4 brakes, then after it reaches all the brakes it presses down on the
brake pads and makes them push down on the rotor and make the rotor come to a
stop. Well brake lines and parts get hot so the brake fluid has to withstand a lot of
heat well when water contaminates the brake fluid it lowers the brake fluids boiling
point making it have the spongy effect on your brakes.

These brake fluid testers test the contamination of water inside your
brake fluid by measure the conductivity of the water and giving a boiling
point and it marks at what level of contamination the brake fluid has of water.
It has 2 little metal posts that when they come in contact with brake fluid it
lets you know the conductivity of the fluid from one post to the other. It has a
little circuit board that scans the brake fluid and gives you an estimated
boiling point of your brake fluid. The plastic housing is melted on each other
covering up the circuit board and metal posts. It is made of plastic housing
and 2 metal posts to check the conductivity of the fluid. I think it is easier to
last longer how they melted the plastics together so then the tester can
actually last a while because the fluid doesnt affect the plastic. And the posts
are made of stainless steel. The size of the chip that makes everything
function if it would be bigger the tester size would all have to increase there
is no tolerable size different. It was melted plastic so the plastic can actually
last you a while and it is easier to fabricate on a bulk production.
I took used a to cut through the plastic housing on both sides and
after the chip was exposed and I could notice how the tester works. When
you turn on the tester the battery sends an electrical current through the chip
out through one post and the current is collected and the other post notices
the difference in the current. Brake fluid is not conductive so it doesnt really
let the electricity to go through but the water is so if the fluid has water it
changes the conductivity and lets the current pass more freely. Well the
other post checks it out and sends to the chip and then the chip sends the
input into the l.e.d light which tells you if its good or no.
