ME studes capture silver in natl engg design contest

Four of the mechanical engineering (ME) students furnished Holy Angel University
(HAU) with eminence as they triumphed second place in the engineering design
contest of the fourth Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) National
Student Conference, which took place on October 22-23 at the SMX Convention
Center in Pasay City.
The team was composed of fifth year students Joseph David, Patrick James Miguel,
Ariel Cabildo, and Michael Bungque with their coach Engr. Jike Alcain.
Engineering Design Contest of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers
(PSME) National Student Conference is annually held on the month of October. This
year, Batangas State University and Bicol University placed first and third,
respectively.
This years competition is constructing scaffolding, a temporary structure used to
support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other
structures. Contestants used barbeque sticks and the minimum height is two feet.
The road was wide towards the first place as the HAUs scaffolding hoisted an 80
pounder, but it collapsed after the 28-second mark.
According to PSME President Patrick James Miguel, Champion [na] sana kaso hindi
na-credit yung 80 pounds kasi 30 seconds dapat yung tagal kaso 28 seconds, hindi
na kinaya. In spite of that, he is still grateful of what his group had accomplished.
Last year na naming ngayon as fifth year students kaya bago sana kami umalis or
gumraduate ay may maiwan kaming legacy sa HAU at para narin makilala yung
university na to sa ibang schools, Miguel said. This has driven them to push their
capabilities to the topmost of success. Naging way nga yung competition na to sa
amin para bigyan ng karangalan yung school, he added.
Asked which team was the most unbeatable, he said that it is hard to distinguish
because all was incomparable and matchless. Each group varies from one to
another.
Miguel said that it was gratifying that it injected happiness to the organization. HAU
did not qualify on the final round in last years meet but now, they positioned
themselves to the top three.
