Society of Catholic Social Scientists Spring Conference - Saturday, April 9, 2016
Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, North Carolina
Registration is not required and there is no registration fee. That is typical of SCSS
spring conferences. Location of the conference on campus is indicated on the
accompanying conference schedule. A campus map is also included.
Travel to the Conference. Attendees flying to the conference would go into the
Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, which serves the greater Charlotte, North
Carolina area that Belmont Abbey College is part of. If renting a car at the airport, drive
north from it onto Billy Graham Parkway to I-85 south. Take I-85 south to exit 26 (the
sign at the exit says Belmont Abbey College). Go slightly right at the exit and the College
will be directly across from this. The driving time from the airport to the campus is
approximately 15 minutes. Also, one can easily get a taxi from the airport. If a ride is
needed to campus from the airport, make arrangements in advance of the day of arrival
by calling Dr. Laurence Reardon at Belmont Abbey College (704-461-6820). He may
also be able to make arrangements for a ride back to the airport, depending on one’s
departure time. If driving to the conference, the interstate highways that go to or near the
greater Charlotte area are I-85, I-77, and I-40, and they easily connect up with a number
of other interstates that go to other parts of the country.
Lodging. A block of rooms has been set aside at the Hampton Inn, 820 Cecilia
Alexander Drive in Belmont, which is next to the campus (phone: 704-825-6100). To get
the conference rate of $99, be sure to mention the Society of Catholic Social Scientists
conference when making your reservation. Breakfast is available at the hotel for free for
those staying there. It is necessary to make your reservation by March 31, 2016. After
that date, the rooms will be released. While there is no block of rooms being held there, a
Holiday Inn Express is also very close to the campus at 250 Beatty Drive in Belmont. To
make a reservation there, call 704-812-2000. They also offer a free breakfast for their
guests. All attendees, including speakers, are responsible for making their own lodging
reservations and paying for their own rooms.
