Two predominant movements of literature in the 18th and 19th century were
Classic and Romantic. As a protest against Classicism, I prefer Romantic literature
because it was a break from the past and it brought reform not only to literature but
also to the people in society. Romantic literature focused more on nature and the
well being of the people whereas Classical literature stressed it’s attention on logic.
The reasons why I prefer Romantic literature are firstly because it examines inner
feelings, emotions and imaginations, it is concerned with the particular and lastly it
romanticizes about the past. As opposed to classical literature which focuses more
on human nature, society as a whole and morals, is concerned about general,
universal experiences and last but not least optimisizes about the past.

In conclusion, Romantic literature and Classical literature are very similar yet
quite different. Romantics focused on the well being of the people, people’s views
on certain topics and their emotions, whereas Classicists focused on how things
worked, more broader topics and the bigger picture. Which is why I prefer Romantic
literature because it cares about people’s inner feelings, emotions and
imaginations, it is concerned with the particular and it romanticizes about the past.
