TheScottPondDamonLewisCreekwasbuiltin1980bytheStateofVermonttoprovideabarriertosea
lamprey.Thedamisnowprivatelyowned.Thegoalofthisprojectwastoimprovetheexistingjumppoolto
allowLakeChamplainsteelheadandAtlanticsalmontojumpoverthedamwhilemaintainingthedams
functionasabarriertosealamprey.
Thisprojectincludedresearchonfishpassagecriteria;fishpassage,
damsafety,andconstructiondesign;bidmanagement;and
constructionoversight.Theprojectobjectivesincluded:
Creatingsmoothanduniformflowapproachingthejumppool
thatcontainedasubmergedstandingwaveforliftattheproper
leapinglocationforthefishpassagedesignflow;
Achievingajumpheightof3to4feet;
Elevation(feetNAVD88)

Creatingapooldepthof4to5feet(~1.25xfallheightaccording
toStuart,1962);
Achievingthefishpassagehydrauliccriteria(velocity~6feetper
second,maximumdrop~1foot,andminimumdepth~0.7feet
(Bates&Kirn,2009));
Maintainingalampreybarrier;and
Protectingthedamfromdamages.
