C. Supplies Needed:
Premade Foldable- (made with construction paper and staples)
Crayons
Pencil

D. Procedure1. Using number order call the students over to the rug to begin the lesson.
2. The teacher will write the word respect on the Promethean board and ask students
what respect means.
On the board write the definition of respect. Thinking and acting in a
positive way about yourself and others.

With the class discuss this definition and have them think of people they
respect and have one or to people share their thinking.
3. Then write Kindness on the board and discuss what it means with the class.
On the board write the definition of kindness. Concern for other peoples
feelings and happiness.
With the class discuss this definition and have them think of the kindness
they show people.
4. Next write Honest on the board and discuss what it means with the class.
On the board write the definition for honest. To tell the truth at all times.
With the class discuss this definition and have them think of ways they use
honesty every day.
5. Next write self-control on the board and discuss what it means with the class.
On the board write the definition for self-control. Is a skill that allows you
to stop doing what you want to do and allows you to make a better choice.
With the class discuss this definition and have them think of ways they use
self-control every day.
6. Next ask the students how these words help us to be good citizens. Have a few
students share their answer. Make sure that the students cover all four words.
7. Show the students the foldable that they will be making today. Explain that we
will create this together as a class so they need to pay attention in order to make
it.
8. Send them back to their seats, have them pull out their crayon box, and give them
a foldable. The teacher will demonstrate and the students will follow along.
9. First have the students put their name on the back of it. Then have the students
fill out the tabs. Have them write Respect on the first tab, Kindness on the
second, Perseverance on the third, and Self Control on the fourth. Have them add
the title Good Citizens Show.
10. Next have the students flip up the first tab and on the top write the definition of
respect and then above the word give an example of how good citizens are
respectful.
11. On the second tab have students flip it up and write the definition of kindness on
the top and then their own example above the word about how good citizens show
kindness.
12. On the third tab have the students flip it up and write the definition of
perseverance on the top and their own definition and then their own example of
how good citizens show perseverance above the word.
13. On the forth tab have them flip it up and write the definition of self-control on the
top and write their own example of how good citizens show self-control above the
word.
14. If there is time left after all of that is done allow students to decorate the front
cover of their foldable, then have them turn it in.
15. If extra time watch the little red hen video- and talk about how it relates to
citizenship.
