Abstract:

GTKESchoolisseekingagranttohelpenhancestudentlearningthroughtheuseof
GoogleApps.Ourobjectiveistoprovideeveryclassroomwithaclasssetof30iPadsand
provideeveryteacherwiththetrainingneededtointegrateGoogleAppsintotheircurrent
classroomcurriculum.Ourgoalistopromoteactiveengagementandhandonlearninginall
classrooms.Bytheendofthe20152016schoolyear,weproposethateachclassroomwillbe
equippedwithaclasssetofiPads.Additionally,eachteacherwillbeeffectivelyincorporating
GoogleAppsintotheirdailylessonplans.Ourgoalistotransformourclassroomsintoonesthat
aremorereflectiveofa21stcenturylearningenvironmentinordertoincreasestudents
academicachievement.

DemonstratedNeed:

ThemissionoftheGoogleAppsProfessionalDevelopmentProgramistoprovideGTKE
SchoolPreKindergartenthroughtwelfthgradeteacherwiththeknowledge,skillsandsupport
necessarytoimplementandincorporateGoogleAppsintotheirgradelevelcurriculuminorder
toraisestudentstestscores.Thefollowinggoalsandobjectiveswerecreatedinordertomeet
theneedssetforthintheGTKEsSchoolAccountabilityandImprovementPlan.Thedatafor
thisplanwasgatheredfromthefollowingsources:GMAS,CRCT,SRI,MAP,mCLASS,STAR,
CCRPI,ReportCardsandschoolsurveys.TheSchoolImprovementteamdevelopedasurveyto
accesstheneedsofthefacultypertainingtotheuseofGoogleAppsintheclassroom.Theresults
ofthesurveyshowedthatonly30%ofthefacultyfeltcomfortableintegratingGoogleAppsin
theclassroomand95%feltthatprofessionaldevelopmentfocusingonGoogleAppsin
Educationwasneeded.Basedonthisdata,itisclearthatthereisaneedforprofessional
developmentopportunitiesfocusedontheuseofGoogleAppsintheclassroomtoraisestudent
achievement.

GoalsandObjectives:
Goal1:AllclassroomsatGTKEschoolwillreceiveaclasssetof30iPads.

Objective1:BeginningDecember2015,GTKEschoolwillbudget$407,989.80toacquirea
classsetofiPadsforeachclassroomteacherintheschool.(34classroomteachersx30
iPad/classroom)

Objective2:Summer2015,theMediaSpecialistwillprocesstheiPadsandtheywillbe
distributedtoeachclassroom.

Goal2:PK8thgradeteacherswillbetrainedonthebasicuseofGoogleAppsintheclassroom.

Objective1:BeginningAugust2015,classroomteacherswillattendmandatorytrainingonthe
useofGoogleAppsintheclassroom.

Goal3:OngoingGoogleAppsinEducationtrainingwillbeprovidedatschoolduringteachers
scheduledplanning/professionallearningtimeseachweek.ByDecember2015,trainerswill
coverGoogleClassroom,GooglePlayforEducationandGoogleMaps.

Objective1:DuringtheSeptemberweeklytrainingsessions,professionaldevelopmentcoaches
willintroduceGoogleClassroomandprovidetrainingonimplementingthisresource.

Objective2:DuringtheOctoberweeklytrainingsessions,professionaldevelopmentcoaches
willintroduceGooglePlayforEducationandprovidetrainingonimplementingthisresource.

Objective3:DuringtheNovemberweeklytrainingsessioss,professionaldevelopmentcoaches
willintroduceGoogleMapsandprovidetrainingonimplementingthisresource.

Objective4:DuringtheDecemberweeklytrainingsessions,professionaldevelopmentcoaches
andteacherswillmeettodevelopandsharelessonsusingGoogleApps.

Goal4:TeacherswilldevelopandimplementlessonsusingGoogleAppsintheirclassroom.

Objective1:JanuarythroughMayof2016,professionaldevelopmentcoacheswillbeavailable
toassistteachersintheirclassroomtoprovidefollowuptrainingasneeded.

Objective2:JanuarythroughMayof2016,100%ofclassroomteacherswillwritelessonplans
andincorporatelessonsintotheircurriculumthatincludeGoogleApps.

PlanofOperation:

Theprojectedtimelineforthisprojecttakesplaceduringthe20152016schoolyear,
fromAugust2015untilJune2016.TheschoolwillpurchasetheclassroomsetsofiPadsduring
thesummerof2015.Thetrainingfortheprojectbeginsduringpreplanningwithastaff
professionaldevelopmentday.Duringthistrainingday,teacherswillbebrokenintosmall
groupsbasedongradelevelsandtheywillattendthefirstprofessionaldevelopmentseminaron
usingGoogleAppsintheclassroom.ThistrainingwillbeanoverviewofusingGoogleAppsin

education.Throughoutthefirstsemesteroftheschoolyear,teacherswillmeeteachweekwith
theirgradelevelsandaprofessionaldevelopmentcoach.Eachmonth,thesemeetingswillfocus
onaspecificGoogleAppthatisavailableandhowtouseitintheclassroom.Thiswillalsobea
timetocollaborateandplanlessonsusingthespecificGoogleApp.ProfessionalDevelopment
coacheswillalsobeavailabletoassistandcoteachwithteachersintheirownclassroom
throughoutthesemester.Thefirstsemesteroftheschoolyearwillbespentactivelylearninghow
tousetheappsandwritinglessonplansthatcanbeimplementedduringthesecondsemesterof
theschoolyear.Duringthesecondsemesteroftheschoolyear,teacherswillbeexpectedto
integratetheGoogleAppsintotheircurriculumweekly.Professionaldevelopmentcoacheswill
stillbeavailablebyappointmenttoassistwithfollowupquestionsandprovideadditional
assistanceasneeded.Administratorswillconductregular,periodicobservationsandwill
regularlyreviewteacherslessonplanseachweek.Inordertoevaluatetheeffectivenessofthis
GoogleAppsinEducationInitiative,teacherswillbeaskedtocompleteapreandpostcourse
surveytodetermineiftheyfeltmorecomfortableusingGoogleAppsandiftheythoughtthey
couldnowuseiteffectivelyintheclassroom.Studentachievementwillbecollectedfromthe
samesourcesthatwereusedtodeveloptheinitialSchoolImprovementPlanforthecurrent
schoolyear.

Apps.
3. Administratorswillconductwalkthroughobservationsandformalobservationstocheck
fortheuseofGoogleApps.
4. Standardizedtestscoreswillbereviewedtodetermineifthereisanincreaseinstudent
