SUMMARY :
A mature team player, with rich experience in diverse environments, understanding roles BOTH
as an executive and a manager.
A team player who understand the difference between whom he works FOR vs WITH.
An ex-military man who takes, executes and delivers orders well.
Adaptability, versatility and team-spirit have always been my strengths. I offer my employers
big-picture maturity, experience and team-spirit, and yet, at the same time, the enthusiasm,
pliability and adaptability of a fresh school-leaver.
HISTORY :
Pre 1994
I financed myself through University by giving private tuition, usually one-to-one, sometimes in
small groups of up to 5 students at a time. During the University holidays (not concurrent with
Primary and Secondary school holidays), I registered as a relief teacher with the Ministry of
Education, and taught Mathematics in government secondary schools.
In one particular case, I must have done quite well, as the principal of the school insisted that I
accepted a written testimonial from him; he seemed sure that I would one day turn to teaching.
He was right, the original testimonial is still in my file (copy attached), and here we are.
1994 1996
After leaving Univ, my first few jobs were technical sales positions, specifically customised
emergency vehicles and hospital engineering. These roles always involving meeting people, but
not strictly in sales related activities, but, more often, as a trainer, teaching the end-users how to
use the latest system we've supplied.
1996 1999
Thenafter, I managed a business supplying engineering solutions to the healthcare industry,
specifically, high pressure gas systems, ward automation, customised ambulances and mobile
intensive care units, but everywhere, I found that my main strength was harnessed when I had to
hold an audience with a group of people to make a pitch (pre-sales), and even more when it
came to training them at handover time. I was often in the UK to meet principals (companies we
represented) as well as suppliers and contractors, such as United Vehicle Group, Leyland Daf
vehicles for the projects we commissioned in Singapore.
1999 2006(7)
While I was working for BioTechnik, a client took me on as a Project Manager to manage a few of
their 'emergent businesses', meaning new businesses acquired or projects newly started. I was
challenged and very fulfilled, as not all of my work was engineering-related: some of these were
projects at their most demanding stages, and my adaptability and interpersonal skills, across a
very diversified cross-section of people, were an advantage that was harnessed well.
As fate would have it, one of their projects was the PTPL College in Sarawak, which was then
newly established. Due to their relatively fast growth (in terms of student enrolment), positions
for part-time lecturers and tutors were open.
At that time (2003), I offered my services to teach some evening Math classes, realising that this
was what I actually enjoyed and missed most of all. I reduced my role as a Project Manager, and
worked as and when invited, spending more time with my family, which was still fresh, new,
young, demanding and a source of joy.
Ever since then, I taught Secondary level Maths not only at PTPL, but also at Kuching's Alpha
Education Centre (with over 1500 students enrolled), in cramped and sweat-drenched classrooms
of between 25 and 30 students, but sometimes even 50 students, in free-of-charge tuition

classes for the underpriviledged. Despite the conditions, teaching was a breeze, as Asian
students in Asia are extremely easy to manage and teach. I felt fulfilled by helping my students
overcome their learning fears and barriers. I related to them well, and enjoyed those moments
when I could almost hear an idea or concept click into place in their minds. This joy is still mine
here and now, and I dare say I have adapted to the different culture and environment very well.
PRESENT
I am a very creative teacher, who comes with a wealth of experience, of which no small amount
is in teaching. My experience in Park View, the PGCE course at LSBU and training I have received
in Eltham Green and especially Park View Academy (as a PGCE student) have given me insights
to, and a deeper understanding of Math-Teaching, as opposed to Mathematics per se.
I have and can teach Mathematics up to O-levels (C Maths, E Maths and Additional
Maths i.e. AS papers in the UK) and A-Level (Pure and Mechanics). LSBU-MEC audits
will show high 80s and 90s for Mechanics and Pure options.
Adaptability, versatility and team-spirit have always been my strengths. I offer my employers
big-picture maturity, experience and team-spirit, and yet, at the same time, the enthusiasm,
pliability and adaptability of a fresh school-leaver.
I look forward to an interview, so I may answer any questions, provide additional evidence or
information, so as to secure the position I am applying for
