Other Security Threats
Your Joybook comes with an anti-virus software CD, and be sure to install the
anti-virus software from the disc supplied. Doing so helps you to avoid unex-
pected destruction of your precious data in Joybook and keeps your privacy
against any unauthorized access from other computers.
However, we would still recommend that you back up your data regularly on CDs,
DVDs or other storage media, since the anti-virus software may not be able to
intercept all existing and new viruses, which may lead to destruction of all or some
of your data in the Joybook.
For more information about how to use the anti-virus software installed, please
refer to the on-line help that comes with the software.
For more information on how to use Nero Express, please consult the on-line Help
by clicking the icon on the Nero Express welcome window and then select

Any battery level indication is an estimated result. The actual operating time can be
different from the estimated time, depending on how you are using the Joybook.
You can check the approximate battery level using the battery meter function of
Windows. To read the battery level in Windows, click the icon on Windows
Taskbar.
Immediately save your data upon Battery Low. The remaining operating time
depends on how you are using the Joybook.
Always respond to Battery Low by placing your Joybook on Standby or Hiberna-
tion mode, turning off the computer, or connecting the AC adapter. If you do not
take any action, the computer will automatically hibernate and turn off.
• If you are using a flash PC memory card, do not access the card during battery low
periods. This is because the access may take longer than the time it takes the bat-
tery to run out of charge, thus making your access to the card unsuccessful.
• If you fail to save your data when the battery completely runs out of charge, then
you lose your data.

Hibernation
Hibernation is a very useful feature. People frequently open many applications
when they use computers. It takes some time to get all these applications open and
running, and normally they all have to be closed before the system can be turned
off.

What should be the run time of a battery? Why is it that my battery Life seems to last shorter and shorter on a full recharge?
Run time will vary on individual Joybooks, based on the application programs It is natural for Lithium (L-ion) batteries to decrease in capacity with the number
being used (i.e. high graphics, games), the number of times data is saved or of times they have been recharged. In other words, the more times you have
retrieved from the hard drive and/or optical drive, the memory of notebook, and recharged your battery, the lower the battery capability drops. Therefore, it is nor-
chemistry and capacity of the battery. A “realistic” average run-time for a battery mal for your battery to have a shorter operation time over time.
How to prolong the life of the battery? When connecting to a local network with Joybook, the connection is unstable.
• Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. The instructions below will guide you through the troubleshooting process.
Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for the battery than

Why does the keyboard and/or palm rest get warm? Most users may have discovered that the capacity of a 10GB hard drive will
become 9GB when displayed from the OS; and 20GB become 19GB, 40GB
Typically, the Joybook tends to be slightly warm. The location of the processor is become 38GB..., etc. The bigger the capacity, the bigger the difference. It is

Furthermore, when you partition a hard drive, the system will reserve some space
on the drive for system files. Therefore, the total capacity of a hard drive displayed
by the OS will never be the same as its nominated capacity. When I connect the Joybook to an external monitor, the display is abnormal.

How can I reduce the wearing of the screen spindle when I open the screen?
We suggest that you open and close your screen gently and slowly with both
hands. Apply force evenly on both hands to reduce spindle wearing and prevent
deformation or breaking of spindle due to uneven force application.
