The British Embassy in Cairo is looking for an outstanding new Administration


Assistant/Translator to work within the Defence Section. This is a unique and exciting
opportunity to work closely in a professional and dynamic environment. The
successful applicant will be responsible for the translation of all correspondence
between the Defence Section and external interlocutors whilst forging strong
relationships with the Egyptian military and other departments within the Embassy. The

JOB DESCRIPTION
Contribute to the day-to-day business of the Defence Section through the translation of all
incoming and outgoing correspondence thereby providing a vital communication link in support
of UK Government objectives in Egypt.
Assist in the development of a current understanding of regional affairs in support of the
Defence Sections objectives in Egypt. This will involve:

Producing updated local and regional information guides


Providing local and regional expertise to the Defence Attach
Effective liaison with internal and external organisations
The review of Egyptian media for defence and security related items

Interact with Egyptian military counterparts, local sales agents and the UK Trade and
Investment team to support UK companies with business in Egypt.
Support the Defence Sections analysis and reporting through high-quality advice to the
Defence Attach about Egyptian defence and security related subjects.
Additional duties

Deputise for the Administration Officer in support of daily duties


Respond to specific defence enquiries from the Egyptian Armed Forces and
members of the public
Improve the Embassy as a place to work through active contribution to the
Embassys corporate agenda and its ethics of professionalism, teamwork and
respect

Key Selection Criteria

At least two years work experience in translation services


A dynamic, flexible, can do attitude focused on quality with the ability to seize the
initiative where required
Meticulous, organised and methodical
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Have the ability to work alone and as part of a team
A University degree
Good working knowledge of the Internet and Microsoft Office products specifically
Word & Excel
Desirable
Knowledge of Egyptian and British Military Terminology
Remuneration
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package. The gross starting salary for
this position is LE 7,143 per month inclusive of all allowances. The salary is subject to tax as
per the usual regulations based on a 36-hour working week.
