IMPORTANT EVENTS

At the age of 19 she left New Zealand and


moved to the United Kingdom. Over there she
became friends with some of the most famous
modernist writers.

In 1917 she was diagnosed with extrapulmonary tuberculosis which led to her death
at the age of 34.

Her first published stories were in the High


School Reporter and Wellington Girls High
School magazine in 1898 and 1899.

IMPORTANT EVENTS

Moved to London in 1903 where she


attended Queens College.

Contributed to the colleges newspaper


and eventually became its editor.

Travelled in continental Europe between


1903 and 1906 where she mainly stayed
in Belgium and Germany.

IMPORTANT EVENTS

Returned to New Zealand in 1906 and began


to write her short stories.

Several works published in the Native


Companion and this was her first paid writing
work.

Two years later she moved back to London


and wrote one story and poem in the first 15
months that she was there .
