of Amantillado” -Reading aloud in class and discussing the concept of the short story Alternate Method(s) to Assist Students -Have different groups of students that are struggling with the reading go at slower pace -Read second half of “The Cask of Amantillado” that evening & start on the first half of the “The Tell-Tale Heart” the following evening. - Make sure to give these students extra attention and to go over the vocabulary with them before they have to create sentences for homework that night. Alternate Method(s) to Challenge Students -Have advanced students read “The Tell-Tale Heart” in class after they have finished their formal short story.

-Advanced students need to create 10 compoundcomplex sentences which use the vocabulary word along with a second word from either “The Cask of Amantillado” or “The TellTale Heart” that is not one of our vocabulary words in the same sentence. -Have advanced students write the formal short story and once they are finished reading “The Tell-Tale Heart,” write a paragraph describing how Poe uses imagery and appeals to the senses with vocabulary in this work if they have time. -Short story graded on intro., more than 3 paragraphs in body, conclusion and great grammar. HW: 10 sentences with 2 vocab words each. Read “Ligeia” & write 2 page essay about it.


-Writing a formal short story in-class for the last 30 minutes of class to be turned in for a grade

-Have the students that need to go at a slower pace write a solid threeparagraph short story, with an intro., body paragraph, and concluding paragraph.


-Short story will be graded on intro., body, and conclusion along with good grammar -HW: Write 10 original sentences using vocabulary words & 1 page typed essay on Poe’s “The TellTale Heart”
