Mississippi river information: The Mississippi river is a giant river which is 3800km in length. It flows through 10 American states and through its journey, receives over 100 major tributaries. The Mississippi river is also joint to the well known Missouri river. The Mississippi river drainage basin covers one third of the USA and a small part of Canada. Mississippi river flooding information: Frequent flooding has lead to a wide flood plain. The widest part of the flood plain is over 200km at its widest point.
