Lesson Content
What Standards (national
or state) relate to this
lesson?
(You should include ALL
applicable standards. Rarely
do teachers use just one:
they’d never get through
them all.)
Objectives- What are you
teaching?
(Student-centered: What will
students know and be able to
do after this lesson? Include
the ABCD’s of objectives:
action, behavior, condition,
and degree of mastery, i.e.,
"C: Given a sentence written
in the past or present tense,
A: the student B: will be able
to re-write the sentence in
future tense D: with no errors
in tense or tense contradiction
(i.e., I will see her
yesterday.)."
Note: Degree of mastery does
not need to be a percentage.)
Evaluation Plan- How will

“SC.3.L.14.1: Describe structures in plants and their roles in food production, support, water and
nutrient transport, and reproduction” (CPALMS)
“SC.3.L.14.2: Investigate and describe how plants respond to stimuli (heat, light, gravity), such as the
way plant stems grow toward light and their roots grow downward in response to gravity” (CPALMS)

Students will understand how different forces affect plant growth and review different
parts of plants.

Formative: I will be asking plenty of questions, and we will also be walking around the

classroom.
Summative: Students will have a paper they will be taking notes on throughout the
lesson, and reacting to different prompts.

Address the following:
 What formative evidence
will you use to document
student learning during
this lesson?
 What summative evidence
will you collect, either
during this lesson or in
upcoming lessons?

Step-by-Step Plan
(What exactly do you plan to
do in teaching this lesson? Be
thorough. Act as if you needed
a substitute to carry out the
lesson for you.)
Where applicable, be sure to
address the following:
 How will materials be
distributed?
 How will students
transition between

Engage: Students will be watching time lapsed photos and
answering questions.
Explore: Students will be partner talking about what they see and
think.

 What will you as the
teacher do?
 What will the students do?
 What student data will be
collected during each

 What are other adults in
the room doing? How are

Explain: Students will be taken written notes of what they see and
what they think.
Extend: Students will have to think of a previous science experiment
that failed.
Evaluation: Students will turn in the piece of paper with their notes
and ideas.

If applicable, how does this lesson connect to the interests and cultural
backgrounds of your students?
Students will get to see time-lapsed photos which is something that should
interest students, while also given plenty of time to express their own ideas.

Differentiation—based on
the needs of your students
how will you take
individual and group
learning differences into
account.

I will allow time for students to partner talk and whole group talk.

Theories and research
taken in consideration
when planning this lesson

I want to take into account “scaffolding”, which is something we discussed in my learn
and development class a lot last semester. I want my questions to aid my students’
learning processes.
