RITE FOR CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE DURING MASS

INTRODUCTION:
Commentator:

Matrimony is the sacrament by which a baptized man and a baptized woman

bind themselves for life in a lawful marriage, and receive the grace to discharge
their duties. Christian marriage unites one man and one woman for life. Christ
raised marriage to the dignity of a sacrament. This sacrament consist in the
mutual expression by both contracting parties of their free consent to take each
other as husband and wife.
Married Christians, in virtue of the Sacrament of Matrimony, signify and share
in the mystery of that unity and fruitful love which exists between Christ and
His Church (Eph.5:32); they help each other to attain to holiness in their
married life and in the rearing and education of their children; and they have
their own special gift among the people of God (1 Cor.7:7; Second Vatican
Council, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium, 11).
We are gathered this afternoon to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass; the
source and summit of our Christian life; and to witness Jason and Rizza as
they take their vows and unite themselves in the Sacrament of Matrimony. Let
us pray for them that they will be faithful to each other and that they may
lovingly take upon themselves the task which God will be entrusted them to
live and love each other. May the Good Lord grant them the joy; the joy that
will remain in them all the days of their lives.
Let us welcome Jason and Rizza and their entourage.
(Solemn entrance of bridal couple with their entourage.)

Please all stand and let us sing the entrance hymn:

LITURGY OF THE WORD:

FIRST READING
LECTOR 1:
A reading from the book of Genesis
(Genesis 2:18-23)
The Lord God said, It is not good for a man to be alone. I will make a
suitable partner for him. So the Lord God formed out of the ground
various animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the
man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of
them would be its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds
of the air, and all the wild animals; but none proved be a suitable partner
for the man. So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he
was asleep, he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. The
Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that He had taken from the
man. When He brought her to the man, the man said; This one, at last, is
the bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh, this one shall be called
woman, for out of man this has one been taken.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

All:
How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord, Mighty God, Lord of all!
Psalmist:
Even the lowly sparrow finds a home for her brood;
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young;
In Your altars my King and my God.
All:
How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord, Mighty God, Lord of all!
Psalmist:
Blessed are they whose dwelling is Your own, Lord of peace.
Blest are they refreshed by springs and by rain
When dryness daunts and scathes.
Behold my shield, my King, and my God.

Psalmist:

How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord, Mighty God, Lord of all!
I would forsake a thousand other days anywhere
If I could spend one day in Your courts, belong to You alone
My strength are You alone.
My glory, my King, and my God.
How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord, Mighty God, Lord of all!
How lovely Your dwelling place, O Lord, Mighty God, Lord of all!

SECOND READING
LECTOR 2:
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.
(Ephesians 5:21-22)
Let all kinds of submission to one another become obedience in Christ. So
wives to their husband; as to the Lord.
The husband is the head of his wife, as Christ is the head of the Church,
His body, of whom he is also the Savior and as the Church submit to
Christ, so let a wife submit in everything to her husband.
As for you, husbands love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave
himself up for her. He washed her and made her holy by baptism in the
word. As he wanted a radiant Church without stain or wrinkle or any
blemish but holy and blameless, he himself had to prepare and present her
to Himself.
In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they love their own
bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. And no one has ever hated
his body: he feeds and takes care of it. That is just what Christ does for the
Church, because we are part of his body.
Scripture says: Because of this, a man shall leave his father and mother
and be united with his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a
very great mystery, and I refer to Christ and the Church. As for you, let the
wife respect her husband.

Some Pharisees came to Him and tried to trap Him by asking, Does our
law allow a man to divorce his wife for whatever reason he wishes? Jesus
answered, Havent you read the scripture that says that in the beginning
the creator made people male and female. And God said; For this reason
man will leave his father and mother. And unite with his wife, and two
will become one. So they are no longer two, but one. Man then, must not
separate what God has joined together.

We are the signs of your life with us yet;

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have
received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it
will become for us the bread of life.

The Deacon, or the Priest, pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying quietly:

The Priest, bowing profoundly, says quietly:

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to
give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For you willed that
the human race, created by the gift of your goodness should be raised to such high
dignity that in the union of husband and wife you might bestow a true image of
your love. For those you created out of charity you call to the law of charity
without ceasing and grant them a share in your eternal charity. And so, the
Sacrament of holy Matrimony, as the abiding sign of your own love, consecrates
the love of man and woman, through Christ our Lord. Through him, with the
Angels and all the Saints, we sing the hymn of your praise, as without end we
acclaim:

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II (from the New Translation of the Roman Missal)

Priest:
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore,
these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so
that they may become for us the Body and + Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion, he took bread
and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and, once more
giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE
CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND
ETERNAL COVENANT. WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU
AND FOR MANY, FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN
MEMORY OF ME.
THE MYSTERY OF FAITH (all rise)
ANAMNESIS:

Save us, Savior of the world, save us; Savior of the world, for by your Cross and
Resurrection you have set us free. Save us, Savior of the world.

PRIEST:

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,

we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks
that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be
gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the
fullness of charity, together with Francis our Pope and Elenito our Bishop and all
the clergy.
Father, accept this offering from your whole family and from Jason and Rizza for
whom we now pray. Grant them the gift and joy of children and a long and happy
life together.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the
resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of
your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God, with blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be
coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus
Christ.
Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of
the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.
Magno Amen:

Amen!

THE COMMUNION RITE

Priest:
At the Saviors command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Pater Noster:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us, deliver us from evil.
(The embolism and doxology is omitted)
NUPTIAL BLESSING
Priest:
Let us humbly invoke by our prayers, dear brothers and sisters, Gods blessing
upon this bride and groom, that in his kindness he may favor with his help those
on whom he has bestowed the Sacrament of Matrimony.
Holy Father, maker of the whole world, who created man and woman in your own
image and willed that their union be crowned with your blessing, we humbly
beseech you for these your servants, who are joined today in the Sacrament of
Matrimony.
May your abundant blessing, Lord, come down upon this bride, Rizza, and upon
Jason, her companion for life, and may the power of your Holy Spirit set their
hearts aflame from on high, so that, living out together the gift of Matrimony,
they may (adorn their family with children and) enrich the Church.
In happiness may they praise you, O Lord, in sorrow may they seek you out; may
they have the joy of your presence to assist them in their toil, and know that you
are near to comfort them in their need; let them pray to you in the holy assembly
and bear witness to you in the world, and after a happy old age, together with the

circle of friends that surrounds them, may they come to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.
All:
Amen.
Priest:
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give
you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant
her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and
ever.
All:
Amen
Priest:
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
All:
And with your spirit.
Priest:
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
(Then he takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice,
saying quietly)
May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ bring eternal life to us who receive
it.
Agnus Dei:

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy, have mercy on us.
(2x)
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, Grant us peace, grant us peace.

(Then the Priest, with hands joined, says quietly)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who, by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy
Spirit, through your Death gave life to the world, free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil; keep me always faithful to your commandments, and never let
me be parted from you.
Or:
May the receiving of your Body and Blood, Lord Jesus Christ, not bring me to judgment and
condemnation, but through your loving mercy be for me protection in mind and body and a healing
remedy.
Commentator:

Please all kneel.

Priest:

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

All:

The Priest, facing the altar, says quietly:

May the Body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
And he reverently consumes the Body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says quietly:
May the Blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.
And he reverently consumes the Blood of Christ.

After this, he takes the paten or ciborium and approaches the communicants. The Priest raises a host
slightly and shows it to each of the communicants, saying:
Priest:
The Body of Christ.
The communicant replies:
Communicant:
Amen
COMMUNION HYMN:

Ref: Our blessing cup is a communion with the blood of Christ;

And the bread we break, it is a sharing in the body of the Lord.
How can we make a return. For all the goodness God has shown?
We will take the cup of life, and call upon God's name.
Precious indeed in Your sight, the life and death of those You love.
We are your servants, for You have set us free.
Gracious and merciful God, we give you thanks and bless Your name:
With all your people, praise and glory to Your name.
