DESCRIPTION: This is a colorful full-bleed

event ad to promote a charity art auction using
only Microsoft Word.

PROGRAMS USED: Microsoft Word.

DATE: January 31, 2016.
COURSE: COMM 130-04
INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre
OBJECTIVES:

Comprehend image sizing

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.

Create a full-bleed design.

Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your

message and audience.

Learn to use only Word design features without using any

Adobe programs, including Photoshop.
Process: I decided to focus on the image first then add everything
else later. I wanted a green image, at least an image that has a lot
of green into it. I added the title next, deciding on a colonial font
to showcase the fact that this is taking place in central Virginia,
and that the image looks a bit like the Appalachians back home. I
absolutely made sure to make the Title on top of the lighter spots
on the clouds to add a nice balance to the rain clouds on the left.
I ended up decreasing the spacing between Charity Art Auction to
make the title look cleaner. The Ribbon wasnt part of the initial
draft instead it was a triangle of the same color on the bottom
right to try to balance out all the green and Lime on the left.
The Triangle is supposed to look like it was added on later and not
part of the painting, hence the shadows on the ribbon. I ended up
switching it over to a ribbon to add more flow to the design.

DESCRIPTION: An Inspirational montage made by

blending in 2 or more images.

PROGRAMS USED: Photoshop

DATE: February 18, 2016
COURSE: COMM 130-04
INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre
OBJECTIVES:

Learn to use photoshop layers

Learn to blend images seamlessly, using the masking tool

Use filters

Apply typography principles

PROCESS: First I added in the background of the sky and
flipped it vertically after that I added in President Uchtdorfs
image and flipped the image horizontally then added in the
plane and used the clone stamper tool to remove the airline
name, and the name of the plane then I flipped it horizontally
after which I cropped the original image of the planes name
and put it on the flipped planes image and used the color
replacement tool to make the change unnoticeable. I used the
color replacement tool on Uchtdorfs tie to make it blueand I
used the levels tool to bring out more color, contrast and to
improve the quality of Uchtdorfs image Used the sharpen tool
on Uchtdorfs image to increase quality. I a mask to Uchtdorfs
image and the plane and used 3% opacity and 100% flow to blend
them to the background. I then focused on Uchtdorfs hand to
remove any evidence of blurring. And finally I ended up repositioning and changing the size of the text numerous times,
until I settled on increasing the size and bolding only good
works and salvation

PROGRAMS USED: Photoshop.

DATE: February 7, 2016
COURSE: COMM 130-04
INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre
OBJECTIVES:

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose and effectively use a color scheme.

Use a digital camera to take a quality image.

Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool

Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.

Use repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Print with full-bleed margins.

PROCESS: I decided to use complementary due to her sword and her
clothing. I attempted to shoot a high contrast photo of a small
figurine using one of my lamps in my room. I edited the photo
using levels, sharpness, saturation, color balance, selective color,
color replacement, smudging, and a heavy use of the clone stamp
tool. I used the selective color and the color replacement tool to
change the color of the inside of her cape and her eyes. I then
changed the layering and using the eraser tool to make her sword
and her elbow appear above the text. I made sure to use the same
font for the heading that was in the game she was in. I then used
the sharpening tool to make her face pop a little more and used
the smudging tool to decrease the level of detail on her body. I
added a second orange cross in the background to have an illusion
of depth, and I lastly added the swatches of the top left corner.

DATE: February 21, 2016

COURSE: COMM 130-04
INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre
OBJECTIVES:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit

a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.

Market research: gather opinions from at least ten

people about which logo appeals most to them.

Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your

logos.

Refine one logo with variations for color

PROCESS: These Logos were actually pretty fun to draw. I took a
picture of a real SNES controller I found on the web and used
the Curvature and Elliptical tool to trace over the image. I
then added the wire and plug while trying to make it sort of
look like the Nintendo Logo using the rectangle and curvature
tool. I then added in the actual colors for the buttons on the
controller. Once that was finished I searched the web for a good
retro video game font and then decided I needed a modern font as
well to match my audience, since I have the retro font for retro
games, the SNES controller for post modern games. I made the
ROFL larger to add contrast and to make the name of the store
stand out more.

OBJECTIVES:

Make and image 300 500 pixels long and as a .PNG

Write content to describe the process of creating your logo

and how it appeals to a target audience.

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML.

Acquire a working knowledge of CSS.

Identify hex colors to match logo.

PROCESS: I first made the HTML and then created a CSS file and
linked it to the HTML. I got the columns and boxes roughly to
the position I wanted them to be and then added borders around
them to make them have a video game look to them. I placed the
columns and boxes in a way that they would look like they came
from an RPG (Role Playing Game). I then added the colors to
each individual box, using the same colors and position of said
colors as the SNES controller, I previously saved these colors on
Photoshop just in case. I then scaled them using the padding and
margin rules to get them to the desired shape and size (this was
very difficult since changing one changes them all). I then added
the Verdana font to the entire document, and made the text color
white on all except the bottom box. I then added a design behind
my logo to add some variety to it so that the red and yellow wont
stick out too much. I then added in the text into HTML this was
a huge mistake since after I added the text the boxes changed
completely and I had to redo the padding and margin rules. I then
increased the line height and bolded the titles

PROGRAMS USED: InDesign

DATE: January 24, 2016
COURSE: COMM 130-04
INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre
OBJECTIVES:

Apply design principles and use appropriate typography.

Use basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.

Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign

document to keep links in InDesign intact.
PROCESS: For this I used InDesign, for all of the work. I first
started with the Image, I thought that the first thing that will
catch someones eye is the image. After seeing this image in the
list given I knew that he had to be looking at the title. I ended
up making the Title tilted in the shape of his face to make a
decent line out if it, the wooden paneling in the background
helped a lot too. I used contrast for the body text because the
picture on top would of drawn too much focus away from the text.
So I used a light gray box with shadows on top of a dark gray
surface, making the body pop and add more focus to it. I was
given the logo, image and text for this image.

COURSE: COMM 130-04
INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre
OBJECTIVES:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.

Incorporate 4 high quality, text-wrapped images.

Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three

paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.

Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex color.

PROCESS: First I made the logo using Adobe Illustrator I then
made the head, halo, restaurant name (not the font), and sombrero
from scratch andused the live trace tool on an existing mustache
picture and made it into a vector then in InDesign made 2 pages
and added a line to mark where the folds are going to be where I
transferred my logo from Illustrator and used the vectoring tool
to make the wings. I thenused the pen tool to make the boundries
on where the wings are so that I will know where it will be
cut on the inside and to use the textwrap feature to make the
body copy curve andused the vectoring tool on the back of the
brochure I then added a rectangle to the front of the brochure
and added the text and made the text white anddecreased the
opacity of the rectangle. I added in background colors and added
in the body copy from which I changed the font to match the
name of the restaurants and added in a brick rectangle to the
headlines used feathering, smooth, and edging to make the image
more isolated and effective I placed them where I wanted them
and use word wrap to add more style and tweaked the paragraph,
and the headline in the inside middle.

PROCESS: I first, using a goat as a reference, used the
curvature tool to make the goat head in illustrator. Which I
added in details like the eyes and the toungue. After which
I then used the path tool to create a circle and added in the
title. I then made the background yellow, and used the shape
tool to make a giant green circle. which I put it behind the
logo. I finally added in the contact information and tried to
make it curve with the green circle.
