SPEECH OF MS. NAIZA MAE D. ADRADOS,

2016 MOST OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE FISHER VALLEY COLLEGE
Bishop Efraim M. Tendero, our distinguished Guest Speaker, Atty. Ronald R. Yap, TFVC President and Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Rebecca M. Yap, School Directress, Mrs.
Ma. Meni Kathleen L. Osorio, College Registrar/ Acting Director of College, Prof. Marlon B. Raquel, Chairperson of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy,
Prof. Gina C. Orense, Chairperson of the College of Hospitality and Management, Prof Janet I. Calica, Chairperson of College of Education, Prof. Myra Joy Ann G. Bayot,
Chairperson of the College of Computer Studies, beloved professors, faculty members, parents, batchmates, friends, ladies and gentlemen good afternoon.
Today, we have reached another milestone in our life. This day we earn our degree. It was difficult but the most important thing is we never give up. I always tell to myself that
Its never too late. Im now 31 years old. Fourteen (14) years after I graduated high school in 2002, I finally got my degree. It was never easy but it is possible. Anything is
possible when you have faith in God.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to become a doctor of medicine. So after I graduated high school as valedictorian, I enrolled physical therapy course in a famous
university in Bicol. They said that its a good preparatory course for medicine. I was a scholar then. However, I still need to shoulder the expensive matriculation fee. I didnt
come from a rich family. My parents just had a small fish retailing business. But this was not enough to send five (5) children to school all at the same time. My family suffered
financial crisis so my two (2) siblings and I need to stop in college.
Eleven years ago, I left Camarines Sur to find a job in Manila to help support my family financially. My first job was a cashier in SM Department store. I was 19 then. I moved
from one job to another job after I finished every six (6) months contract. I worked as a cashier and sales clerk for three (3) years. My salary then was not enough to support my
family. Then I came to the point that I was asking myself what I really want to do with my life. I want change. I dont want to be forever standing on high heels assisting shoppers
inside the mall. But dont get me wrong. I have nothing against the work of a sales clerk. I am proud that I used to be a sales lady of Market! Market!. However, it is a fact that the
salary is not sufficient. During those times, I missed studying. I really wanted to go back to school. I have seen my high school friends graduated in college; some started to
work in their dream job and some are already successful. Oh yes! I envied them for many times. But I believed that God has plans for me. He knows what I am capable of. I
have a dream, I have faith, I have God and I can do everything with Him.
One day, my schoolmate in high school showed up in the department store where I was working. We exchanged hi and hello and asked each other how we were doing. She
has told me that she is working as a call center agent and she earns big. Because of that conversation, it made me realize why not try it, too. So, I quitted my job as a sales clerk
and focused to learn how to speak English fluently. I studied English Proficiency in TESDA for three (3) months to prepare myself in my job hunt. It was very difficult. I have
experienced applying in five (5) different companies in a day and be interviewed so many times and went home unsuccessful and with nose bleeding. Im just kidding! But I
never gave up. After two (2) months of finding a job, I finally got hired in ePLDT Ventus. Then that was the start of my BPO Career. Little by little, I can feel the change. My
family started to be financially stable. I was no longer thinking where to find money to pay the apartment rent, electricity bills and water bills. I was able to send my younger sister
to college who graduated just last year in this institution, and I am proud of that. I started to travel different places in the Philippines and different countries in Asia. I thank God
for all the blessings but there was still something missing in me. I was 28 then but the desire to finish my education was still there. That dream is still alive. I told myself that if
ever I will have money and have a chance to go back to college, I will do it. In 2013 that chance was in front me. No more ifs, no more buts. I went straight to The Fisher Valley
College and enrolled myself with Business Administration course. I can still remember the very kind Maam Ofel who assisted me in my enrollment. Thank you again, Maam
Ofel. That day was very important to me. That was the beginning of my new adventure as a TFVC student. I can still remember my first day in school in my subject Rizals Life
and Works. When everyone was asked to introduce themselves, my classmates said their ages. One said Im 17; the other Im 18; majority was from 17-19 years old. When
its my turn, everyone was shocked. I said I am 28! Oh yes, you heard it right! I am 10 years older than you, guys. I was not ashamed. I was proud. So that was just the
beginning.
I had experienced difficulties, struggles, joy, fun, and adventure throughout my college years. The difficult part was managing my time. Its so hard to go to school in day and go
to work at night. I know all the working students out there like me can relate. When I am in school, my professor would ask me, Dont you feel sleepy? The same question I get
from my manager when I am at work. I just answer back, I love to study, I love what I am doing. When I am in school, I feel young. In school, I have many younger brothers and
sisters calling me Ate Nice. Its such a wonderful feeling. I just cant explain the happiness I feel whenever I give you advice on your personal problemsabout families, love,
and when I help you on your assignments, reports and marketing research.
Now, why am I telling you this? Why am I telling you the story of my life? Well, I am here to inspire you, that is my purpose. Every one of us has his/her own story to tell. Each
has his/her own struggles just to finish college. But what do we have in common? We never give up. We all have the determination and passion to reach up to this point. We all
have dreams. To tell you honestly, I still cannot get over of my dream to become a doctor someday. However, this time, I want to achieve a doctorate degree in Business
Administration, but I need to get an MBA degree first. Who knows, maybe after ten years or so, you are going to call me Doctor.
Looking back all the memories we have spent in school gives me glow in my heart Intramurals, Foundation Day, Retreat, Educational Tours, Recognition Day, but dont also
forget the head-aching thesis, internship and oral defenses in major subjects. All those activities and events generously provided by our dear Alma Mater will always be
remembered and stored in our hearts because these experiences molded us to become what we are today.
This day is the perfect day to give gratitude to everyone who helped us to where we are right now. In behalf of the graduating class, we, the graduates of class 2016 of The
Fisher Valley College, would like to thank and give sincere appreciation to our Alma Mater, the school administration lead Atty. Ronald R. Yap and Mrs. Rebecca M. Yap, our
ever gorgeous and active College Registrar and Acting College Director, Ms. Kate L. Osorio, the school staff and personnel and our dear professors for molding us and inspiring
us to show the best of us. You did not only taught us whats in the book but also the lessons in life that will be our foundation to face the world as we move on to the new chapter
of our life.
I wish to thank my professor, Prof. Marlon B. Raquel, for always believing in what I am capable of doing. I always feel great and honor to hear from my friends in other classes
whenever you mention me as a role model to everyone. I appreciate that you are proud of me. I have always looked up to you because you are such an intelligent professor.
My deepest thanks to the mother of CBAA, Prof. Ofelia C. Buenafe. You have been there through our ups and downs. Your kindest heart and enthusiasm in teaching will always
be remembered by each one of us. I will never forget how thoughtful you are whenever you ask me, May pasok ka pa ba mamayang gabi? Nakatulog ka na ba, anak? Those
words really meant to me, Maam Ofel. Thank you po!
I will speak in behalf of my classmates in Business Administration to thank the super supportive and talented professor, Prof. Anthony Greg F. Alonzo. Thank you, Sir, for all
your trust and moral support you had given us. Every word of encouragement you said matters to us. It gave us hope, courage and determination to survive our challenges in
school.
To other CBAA professors, Dr. Francis Christie C. Arnado, Prof. Lolita M. Dado, Prof. Cirilo A. Mallari, Prof. Restituto R. Adoremus, and Prof. Anita B. Catolico, thank you very
much for unselfishly sharing your knowledge and wisdom to us. To all faculty members of The Fisher Valley College, who, in one way or another, touched our hearts and
became our sources of inspiration.
To my parents, mama and papa, thank you for the unconditional love and moral support that you show me. You were witnesses in my struggles and in my challenges throughout
this journey. You never left me. In times that I feel giving up, during those days when I havent sleep and I still need to review because I have an examination. Thank you, Mama,
for always saying Kaya mo yan, Anak. And to my entire family, my brothers, my sisters, nieces and nephews, you are all my inspiration and my strength.
And to all the parents of the graduates, you are the wind beneath our wings. We thank you for all your sacrifices. We cannot thank you enough for all the things you have
provided to us.
To my CCS, COHM, COE, and CBAA schoolmates and friends who have been our constant buddies for the past four years, to my girlfriends, Je-Ann, Angeli, Echelle, Thea and
Lina - also known as the working girls, we made it! I dedicate this honor to every one of us who is working hard to support our education. Albert and Mark, I admire your
determination, too. To my thesis buddies, Michelle,Ruth and Angeli, without the trust and friendship that we built, we will not received the Best in Thesis Award. To my CBAA
classmates, I will forever treasure the moments we have shared. Each of you touched my heart and I will be forever grateful to know you. I will always be your Ate Nice.
To my Ingram Micro family, my teammates, my team lead, my managers, my sincere gratitude for always giving me consideration on my schedules when I have activities that I
need to attend to in school. I know everyone of you in the office is very proud of what I have achieved.
Above all, I am grateful to God for all the blessings. I thank You for every day. Thank You for the wisdom and love You have given me. I offer You all my achievements.
My Dear Alma Mater, The Fisher Valley College, we will be forever proud of you. We will forever cherish the wonderful years we spent with you. We are now ready to face life
and live our dream.
To my fellow graduates, good luck to our journey! Thank you all! TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY!

The Professional Regulation Commission together with the Professional Regulatory Board of
Accountancy will start the implementation of changes in the coming May 2016 CPA Licensure Examination.
From the previous seven (7) subjects, the exam would now be composed of six (6) subjects as follows: Financial Accounting and Reporting; Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting; Management Advisory
Services; Auditing; Taxation; and Regulatory Frame for Business Transaction. The seven subjects used to
be included in the Board Examination have been in place for a decade now, thus, needed revisions were
considered to take into account the requirements of the current times.

The Board of Accountancy (BOA) has done a mapping or matching of the subjects in the currently prescribed BS Accountancy curriculum with the topics that will be covered by the six subjects. It indicated that there is a 100%
match which meant that all of the revised subjects are covered and taught in the current BSA curriculum. The revised CPA
Exam created a better linkage between theory and practice and therefore would conform with the new outcomes-based approach in education.
The Fisher Valley College, particularly the College of Business Administration and Accountancy headed by Prof. Marlon
Raquel, is continuously finding ways to make sure that our accountancy students would have the knowledge and skills to take
the Board exam with these revised subjects.
