Gaul

There is a region named Gaul that was founded by Julius Caesar, I will be doing my
project on this region, hopeful I will take you back in time and it will seem like you were there
with them when many things were happening in Western Europe during the Iron Age. The neat
thing about Gaul is that some things still exist today from many centuries ago. Gaul is an ancient
region that works with modern France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Southwestern
Germany, and Northern Italy.
My region, Gaul compares too many cultural and military places founded on a common religion
and federations of peoples who thought they had a common origin. This origin goes back to the
8th century, when immigrant groups in the Bronze Age. The culture spread across the area of the
future territory of Gaul becoming its own. In 390 BC, the Gaulois invaded and took over Rome,
this changed many things in the country. A few years later in 222 BC. The Romans had
conquered Gaul, it wasnt looking good for the Gaulois.
Gaul had been divided into three different sections, the Belgae, Aquitani, and Gaul. These
sections differ from one another because of the different languages, they also differ from there
customs and the law enforcement. There is a river that is called Garonne, this river separates the
Gaulous from the Aquitani section. The Marne and the Seine separate the Aquitani from the
Belgae.

One big part of these groups, are in which it has been said that the Gauls have been occupied, it
all takes place in the beginning at the river Rhine, th Rhine is bordered by the river, the ocean,
and the Belgae. Its borders are on the side of the Sequani and the Helvetii, river.
In Roman Gaul it is a tradition to call the chief of any tribe form of the tribe's name. Many
people belonged to a tribe that suit them for example if they made clay they would be in some
time of clay tribe etc. Many of these tribes still are around today and most of them have the same
name as they did back then.
Over time Julius Caesar finally conquered the region, Gaul. He conquered it during the Gallic
War. The source of the Gallic War is Caesar's own commentaries, these were called De Bello
Gallic. During Juliuss rule he had monumentalized three ethnic divisions which were Gaul,
Aquitania, and Belgica. In the south the old Roman Province, another region was also added it
was Massilia it later was renamed to Gallia. The territories that bordered the Rhine River were
combined into 2 military areas. For over 200 years the Roman peace arrangements were
maintained with civil issues that got into more issues which wasnt good for anyone. Many years
after the Germanic people ended this epoch.
Julius Caesar really changed Gaul and developed a new region for many people living there. It is
very neat how there are still tribes from back then still around today. It is amazing how many old
things are still here today and hopefully for generations to come they will know about these
tribes and learn about the Roman Empire. I am glad that I did Gaul I learned a lot of new things

about my region and how it was back then, I also enjoyed learning how it has changed over
many years.
