The length and diameter of the holder fit the 2-compo- nent force balance of the Educational Wind Tunnel HM 170, 24 Conducting the Experiment Middle i! - Mount the aerofoil model in the middle of the working section (Take care of the lever armof 310mm of the force balance). ~ Set the force at the measuring amplifier to zero with the help of the offset potentiometer. Start the wind tunnel, after the-desired wind speed is reached set the aerofoil to the zero, angle. This is achieved by turning the holder Until the model is directed to zero angle of attack. All angles will be measured with refer- ‘ence to this angle position. - Measure the drag and lift forces at different setting angles. Make sure that the model is secured in respective position when the tunnel is ON! - At high angles, the vibration of the aerofoi! indicates flow turbulence. If the vibration amplitude is high, stop the experiment. * HM 170.09 Aerofoil _Atighs reserved G U.NT. Geratobau Gmbh. The flow is almost completely laminar. This is a typical condition in the case of airplanes. At attack angle of ca. 17 - 20° the aerofoll starts to vibrate. The flow becomes turbulent at the low pressure side and forms a vortex behind the aero- foil. The litt decreases, while, al the same time, the drag increases suddenly. In the case of an airpla- ne, this condition leads to a,crash. Due to braking effect of the highly increased drag it looses speed and accordingly lift The coefficient of lift and the corresponding coef- ficient of drag are shown in the following diagram, 10 oe 06 4 02 ° s 10 6 2 ‘Angie of attack ocin deg. ‘Aerofoil NACA 0015, v= 20 mis Al ighis resend GUILT.
