Paul Ott Elementary
Unit: Soccer
Grade: 1st
AGENDA:
Warm up: (10:00)
-Students will begin class with their normal warm up routine which includes light stretching,
light strength exercises as in push-ups and sit-ups, and finish it off with a light jog for a few
minutes.
Lesson Focus
Demonstration (5:00)
-Students will begin by getting used to controlling the ball while remaining stationary. The
students will be given a description of movements and their goal will be to control the ball while
the music is playing.
Around the Trees (12:30)
-Students will be divided by the rows they are sitting in and spread out around the gym. Students
will be used as an obstacle for the students dribbling the soccer ball. The students with the ball
must navigate themselves around the trees (students standing stationary) while controlling the
ball. Students will rotate so that each student is able to participate.
Front Door, Back Door (12:30)
-With the same layout as Around the Trees, students will be working on controlling the soccer
ball. Now, the students who are trees will spread their legs, giving the dribbler an opportunity to
dribble the ball through the other student’s legs. The goal is to remain in control of the ball even
when it is not right at the dribbler’s feet.
Closing: (5:00)
-Students reassemble in their respective lines in the gym as their teachers return to pick them up.
Students will be asked what they learned in today’s lesson and what the importance is of ball
control in the game of soccer.
Objectives/TEKS:
Students will develop the correct technique when dribbling a soccer ball through demonstration
drills and active games.

Students will learn the rules of soccer and when they are told to dribble a soccer ball they will
understand that dribbling is with their feet and not with their hands through a visual
demonstration.
Students will work together by standing in a stationary position when asked so that their peers
may improve their dribbling skills.
