PAVEMENT NOTES

1. EXISTING PAVERS THAT ARE INDICATED TO BE RELAID ARE TO BE NEATLY STOCKPILED ON SITE TO
AVOID DAMAGE DURING CONSTRUCTION.
2. AREAS OF RELAID PAVERS SHALL HAVE BASE MATERIAL CUT TO NEW LEVEL WITHIN EXISTING BASE
MATERIAL AND NEW 25mm SAND LAYER.
3. PAVER LOC OR SIMILAR PRODUCT SHALL BE USED ON ALL RELAID PAVERS.
4. PAVERS RELAID SHALL BE CLEANED PRIOR TO RE-INSTALLATION. DAMAGED PAVERS ARE TO BE
REPLACED.
5. IN AREAS WHERE ASPHALT PAVEMENT EXISTS AND NEW PAVEMENT IS BEING LAID THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL REMOVE THE EXISTING TOP COAT AND PAVEMENT DOWN 100mm FROM SURFACE LEVEL.
6. RE-ASPHALTED AREAS SHALL HAVE EXISTING BASE MATERIAL EXCAVTED (GENERALLY 100mm)
REPLACED WITH A DTEI SPEC PM1/20QG AND COMPACTED (98% MODIFIED) TO NEW DESIGN LEVEL AND
HOTMIX PLACED TO MATCH NEW LEVELS.
7. ALL PAVERS UPON COMPLETION OF INSTALLATION SHALL BE TREATED WITH A STAIN RESISTANT
COATING/SEALANT TO ASSIST WITH CLEANING OF PAVERS. CONTRACTOR TO SUBMIT TREATMENT AND

SITE CONTAMINATION CONTRACTORS RESPONSIBILITIES


1. CREATE AND ADHERE TO A SITE SPECIFIC CEMP (CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
PLAN). THIS DOCUMENT SHALL CONTAIN THE NATURE AND IMPLICATIONS OF THE CONTAMINATION.
2. APPOINT A CEMP ADMINISTRATOR TO IMPLEMENT AND MANAGE THE CEMP. PREPARE AN
ORGANISATIONAL CHART (TO BE ADDED INTO THE CEMP) OUTLINING RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE
ONGOING MANAGEMENT OF THE SITE DURING CONSTRUCTION WORKS. IMPLEMENT A FORMAL PROCESS
OF APPROVAL AND DOCUMENTATION UNDER THE CEMP.
3. IMPLEMENT A SYSTEM OF ONGOING MONITORING AND REVIEW OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CEMP,
INCLUDING INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL AUDITS.
4. PREPARE AND IMPLEMENT A CONSTRUCTION OH&S PLAN COGNISANT OF THE SITE CONTAMINATION.
IMPLEMENT A REVIEW PROCESS FOR ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS. IMPLEMENT A RECORD KEEPING
SYSTEM FOR ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING NON-CONFORMANCES.

10. DEMOLISHED CONCRETE TO BE WASHED FREE OF SOIL PRIOR TO DISPOSAL, IN ORDER TO BE
CONSIDERED NON-CONTAMINATED.
11. AVOID STOCKPILING CONTAMINATED SOILS. WHERE STOCKPILING IS UNAVOIDABLE, KEEP
STOCKPILES DAMP AND COVER WITH WATERPROOF TARPAULINS TO PREVENT DUST GENERATION.
12. ANY EXCAVATION WORK WILL REQUIRE WORKERS TO WEAR "APPROPRIATE" PPE, PLUS CONSTANT
DAMPING-DOWN TO PREVENT DUST GENERATION.
13. IF EXCAVATED SOILS ARE SUITABLE FOR RE-USE AS FILL AND ARE GOING TO BE USED AS SUCH,

14. EXCAVATED SITE SOILS THAT NEED TO BE DISPOSED OF OFF SITE WILL REQUIRE TRANSPORT BY

CERTIFICATES. (IMPLICIT IN THIS IS THAT WASTE SOIL WILL HAVE TO BE CHARACTERISED (BY SAMPLING,

CRITERIA, WILL HAVE TO BE DISPOSED OF TO A SUITABLY LICENSED FACILITY.

1. THE EXISTING GROUND SURFACE IS TO BE STRIPPED TO REMOVE ANY LOOSE SURFICIAL SOIL OR
TOPSOIL AND/OR ASSOCIATED ORGANIC MATTER. ALL TOPSOIL AND UNCONTROLLED FILL IS TO BE
STRIPPED AND THE UPPER 200mm OF EXPOSED SUB-GRADE COMPACTED TO ACHIEVE 98% STANDARD
COMPACTION. ANY EXPOSED SOIL IS TO BE PROOF ROLLED, IN THE PRESENCE OF THE
SUPERINTENDENT AND ENGINEER, WITH A NON-VIBRATING 20t SMOOTH DRUM ROLLER ( OR APPROVED
OTHER) TO IDENTIFY ANY SOFT OR WEAK AREAS.
2. DURING PROOF ROLLING, ALL SOFT, WET, WEAK OR ORGANIC MATERIALS ARE TO BE REMOVED AND

REACHED FOR CBR VALUE. DESIGN CBR IS 3.0%. CONTRACTOR TO INFORM SUPERINTENDANT OF CBR
VALUE ON SITE PRIOR TO NEW PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION.

SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE AND


SEDIMENT CONTROL

1. IT'S ESSENTIAL THAT PROPER SITE DRAINAGE AND WATERPROOFING IS IMPLEMENTED AND
MAINTAINED DURING AND AFTER CONSTRUCTION.
2. AT ALL STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION (INCLUDING DEMOLITION WORKS), CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE
MEASURES TO ENSURE ALL STAGNANT WATER FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE (BUILDING AND
CARPARK AREAS) IS REMOVED FROM THE SITE (TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT)
BEFORE AFFECTING THE EXISTING EXPOSED SOIL. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALLOW FOR THIS IN THEIR
TENDER.
3. SURFACE RUNOFF SHOULD BE PREVENTED FROM ENTERING CONSTRUCTION AREAS, PARTICULARLY
EXCAVATIONS AND FOOTING LOCATIONS, BY GRADING THE GROUND SURFACE AWAY FROM SUCH
AREAS, OR USING SURFACE INTERCEPTOR DRAINS. RUNOFF THAT IS GENERATED WITHIN THE
CONSTRUCTION AREAS MUST BE DIRECTED TO COLLECTOR DRAINS THROUGH THE PROVISION OF
SUITABLE GROUND SURFACE FALLS AND THEN CARRIED AWAY FROM THE WORKS IN SEALED
STORMWATER PIPES TO AN APPROPRIATE DISPOSAL OUTLET.
4. THE USE OF SUBSURFACE CUT-OFF DRAINS OR DRAINAGE BLANKETS WILL HELP PREVENT POSSIBLE
SUBSURFACE SEEPAGE FROM EXCAVATION FACES.
5. SHOULD WATER BE ALLOWED TO SOAK INTO EXISTING SOIL, THE CONTRACTOR IS TO EXCAVATE AND
REMOVE THE WATER-AFFECTED SOIL UNTIL SOIL WITH EXISTING, EQUILIBRIUM MOISTURE CONTENT IS
FOUND. THE EXCAVATED AREA IS THEN TO BE BACKFILLED WITH SELECTED FILL AND COMPACTED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE CIVIL SPECIFICATION.
6. FOR MORE DETAILS ON SITE RUN OFF CONTROL REFER TO GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION REPORT
AND CIVIL SPECIFICATION.
7. SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES SHOULD BE INSTALLED AS A STANDARD POLLUTION CONTROL
FOLLOWING RECCOMENDATIONS BY THE E.P.A. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THESE METHODS ARE
ADOPTED ON SITE.
8. THE CONTRACTOR IS TO INSTALL APPROPRIATE SEDIMENT TRAPS AT ALL ENTRIES (AT SEP AND GIP)
