PROJECT – Microsoft Publisher – 5% of Final Mark

This project is to be done individually. You will be required to use your Microsoft Office skills to teach yourself Microsoft Publisher software while completing a project. It is acceptable to use your classmates’ assistance to learn the software. Think of a grade nine course that you enjoy. You are to create documents to promote the course curriculum. Using Microsoft Publisher you are to create a course logo, course brochure, course letterhead & letter to send to your course teacher. Instructions:

1. Load the software Microsoft Publisher. The New Publication, Start window will appear. 2. To create a course Logo:
Select Blank Publications link, double click the Full Page option in the main part of the window. At the bottom of the vertical toolbar on the left; select the Design Gallery Object, select the category of Logo and choose a Logo design to use for the project. Click insert Logo. Enlarge the logo for editing, edit the logo and save the logo as a Publisher file in a folder entitled Publisher on your home drive Logo Requirements: • include the course name • include an appropriate course image

3. To create the course brochure, and school letterhead:
Using the The New Publication, pane; double click the Publications for Print option. A list of available template categories will appear.

Use the brochure templates to create a course brochure including the course logo Use the letterhead template to create course letterhead

Brochure Requirements: • Use any brochure template – complete both brochure pages • Include in the brochure: o course logo o actual - school address, phone number, fax number o use coursename@tdsb.on.ca as the email address o set Jarvis Collegiate Institute as the organization name o incorporate both the course name & course code within the brochure • Brochure content: o Include in the brochure – units of study topics, evaluation tools, department location, classroom experiences etc.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU UTILIZE THE COURSE OUTLINE/COURSE PROFILE (SUMMARY OF COURSE UNITS & EVALUATION PROVIDED BY YOUR TEACHER IN SEPTEMBER) TO COMPLETE THE CONTENT OF THE BROCHURE Letterhead Requirements: o Include JCI’s school address, phone number on the letterhead

o Use coursename@tdsb.on.ca as the email address

4. Using the letterhead created, compose a letter to the teacher of the course brochure you created. Use a
textbox to key the letter content. Letter content – SEE SAMPLE POSTED IN THE CLASSROOM & BTT PICKUP FOLDER • Date • Teacher name, department and address • Salutation - Dear …. • Paragraph 1 – introduce yourself and the purpose of the assignment • Paragraph 2 – summary of brochure content • Paragraph 3 – letter conclusion

Evaluation: Your project submission must include: • Cover Page • Copy of the brochure, and letter on letterhead • Project rubric
