Who are the managers? 
Managers are the individuals who achieve goals through other people.  He makes the environment conducive to work. He studies the employees individually and insists interest in them. By encouraging the inquisitive employees and by prohibiting insidious elements, he creates hygienic environment. He inculcates the sense of collectivism in employees to work as a team. The resultant output will then be efficiency.

We cannot do today`s job with yesterday`s methods and be in business tomorrow..

Main purpose of managers job..
‡ To achieve and exceed the assigned objectives by ensuring that each and every member of the team achieves or surpasses his/ her respective objectives.

Motivate people..
‡ An important role of a manager is to motivate the people working on a project. ‡ Motivation is a complex issue but it appears that their are different types of motivation based on:
± Basic needs (e.g. food, sleep, etc.); ± Personal needs (e.g. respect, self-esteem); ± Social needs (e.g. to be accepted as part of a group).

Working environments..
‡ The physical workplace provision has an important effect on individual productivity and satisfaction
± Comfort; ± Privacy; ± Facilities.

‡ Health and safety considerations must be taken into account
± Lighting; ± Heating; ± Furniture.

How a manager is different from a worker..

‡ Planning is deciding in advance what to do and how to do ‡ Planning seeks to bridge the gap between where we are and where we want to go ‡ Planning thus, involves setting objectives and developing appropriate courses of action to achieve these objectives

‡ Organising is the process of identifying and grouping the work to be performed, defining and delegating responsibility and authority

‡ In this function the manager finds right person for the right job ‡ Tries to find the right person keeping in mind the work to be performed by them.

‡ In this function the manager instructs, guides, motivates and leads people in the organization to achieve its objectives.

‡ Controlling is one of the important functions of a manager. ‡ Controlling function of a manager is a pervasive function. It is a primary function of every manager. ‡ Managers at all level perform controlling functions to keep a control over activities in their areas.
