Productive Struggle to Enhance Learning Mathematics with Understanding

Struggles are a natural part of the learning process that refers to a students
intellectual effort to expand their understanding of the mathematical concepts
that challenge but fall because of students capabilities. Productive struggles are
identified as an important component of effective mathematics teaching and
learning, implying that good teaching involves placing students in problem
solving situations where they would have difficulty and frustration experience
that could serve as a learning opportunity. Students effort to learn mathematics,
figure something out that is not immediately obvious can help students in their
thoughts and play an important role in deepening the students understanding.
When students struggle, there are consequences of wrong answers. It is not
seen as failures but rather opportunities to explore, grow, and learn serve better
support and motivate students to persist. The procces of struggles with the
potential of succes and failure are the important components of developing
deeper understanding. This study suggests the productive struggle can play in
supporting learning mathematics with understanding.
Teachers can give appropriate guidance and support to maintain the
mathematics understanding. Support and guidance must provide students with
opportunities to think more deeply about mathematical concepts.

The Productive Struggle to enhance Metacognitive Self-Regulated

"why". productive struggles provide a refined understanding of the aspects of
metacognition. Struggle productive can enhance students' metacognitive selfregulation. Metacognitive self-regulation is the ability to set learning goals, plan
strategies to meet these objectives, monitor progress, and know when and how
to ask for help along the way.
