Use shared reading of a paragraph that contains the new vocabulary word
by using the smart board.
Use the same paragraph to predict the meanings with the students

Guided Experience (group working with the teacher)


Dictionary activity

Guiding question: How can we find the exact meaning or definition for
each word? (expected answer: look it up from the dictionary)
Ask the students to take out their dictionaries. Then give them the
instruction of the activity.

Instructions:
Ask students to find the definitions of the words by using the dictionary
(the words will appear on a slide)
Ask them to write the meaning on a paper
Put a timer for the students (5 minutes)
Then each time, choose one student to define one word
*help the low-level group if needed

Objectives:
To understand the new words: when they search on the dictionary for
the meanings
use the dictionary correctly to find meanings of the words: when
they will use the dictionary
Improve students reading skills: when they will use the dictionary an
read the definition
Independent Experience (small group activity 1)
Low level:
They will have a paper that include the 8 new words with pictures to describe
them. Also, they will have cards. each card have a definition of one word (8
definitions cards)
and the important words in the meanings cards will be colored (hint)
Instructions:
Ask the students to read the cards carefully.
Then let them match the definitions with right words.
*do one example for them

Objective:
Students will be able to read sentences: when they will read the definition
and match them with the right words.

Independent Experience(small group activity 2)


Middle level:
They will have a paper that include the 8 new words but without pictures. Also,
they will have cards. Each card include a definition of one word with colored
words (important words).
Instructions:
Ask the students to read the cards carefully.
Then let them match the definitions with right words.

High level:
They will have a paper that include the 8 new words without pictures. Also, they
will have cards. Each card have a definition of one word.

Assessment

Walking around while the students are working and give feedback.
Reflection 4
The activities went well especially when the students predict the
meaning then try to look them up from the dictionary. This let them to
see if the prediction was right or wrong and this made them remember
the meanings of the words. If I have chance to teach this lesson again,
I will reduce the numbers of the activities because there was too many
activities and the time is short.
The children learn the meaning of the new words. I knew that because I
saw them explain the meaning for each other while they were doing
the activity.
Next time I will try to manage the time and give less activities.
