AHU WITH PRE INSULATED DUCT SYSTEM:

1. Pre Insulated ducts are suitable for low to medium pressure duct system
and can be used for the system/AHU with constant air flow.
2. Transportation, loading unloading, handling and installation of pre
insulated ducts are easier as compared to other GI duct system.
3. The Installation and Maintenance cost are very less than the other GI duct
system.
4. The Installation process is easy and faster than the other GI duct system,
hence it is most suitable for fast track jobs and Projects.
2. AHU WITH VAV and PRE INSULATED DUCT SYSTEM:
A. AHU with bypass type VAV.
1. If the AHUs are connected with bypass type VAV and the same is provided
with the pre insulated duct system, the following reactions are expected.
a. When the VAV will be in off condition the pressure in the ducts will get
increase beyond the pressure bearing limit of the duct and can cause
failure of the duct. To avoid this we will have to provide pressure
bypass damper in the main supply duct which will result in the leakage
and extra cost of the project.
b. Air balancing in the VAV system is very difficult, and the same will keep
disturbing with the operation of VAV.
c. In bypass type VAV system a major portion of conditioned air will be
going back to the AHU without getting utilised, hence will result in
wastage of energy.
d. Proper Ventilation in the VAV system can not be maintained.
e. The Installation as well as maintenance cost is very high.
B. AHU with box type VAV.
2. If the AHUs are connected with box type VAV and the same is provided
with the pre insulated duct system, the following reactions are expected.
a. In such case a pressure sensor is provided in the main supply duct
which is connected to the controller of Variable fan drive, when a VAV
get closed or controlled by the room sensor the signal is transferred to
the variable fan drive through the pressure sensor, the time from the
closing of VAV and action of the fan drive to reduce the speed is
sufficient for the failure of pre insulated ducts. Hence the use of pre
insulated duct is not suitable for such a system.
b. The Installation and maintenance cost of the system is very high but it
can save the energy upto 60% .
c. The control and balancing of the system is very difficult.
d. Ventilation and control of CO2 level is very difficult in this system.
e. The Installation process is longer and it requires extra ductwork than
the other system hence it is not suitable for the fast track projects.
