CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN KINDERGARTEN TO HIGH SCHOOL:

Career/Personal/Social/Academic Guidance Classes


Rules and Procedure
Beginning of Class:
If I am going into the classroom, I will consult with the teacher for current classroom rules and procedures. If
not, I will go over classroom set-up procedures at the beginning of the school year. This routine will be
practiced several times, and made into a fun competition for the students at the beginning of my classroom
guidance lessons. I will make a list of needed materials for each class period. Weekly jobs will be given at the
beginning of each class(K-5). School counselor will have a Helping Hands trifold that will contain the jobs
with students names on sticky notes(K-5).
o Classroom jobs assigned (Helping Hands)
o Set-up classroom for guidance lesson
Set up desks (review several times)
Set up classroom materials (review several times)
o Clear desk from previous subject materials
o Take out appropriate materials
Lining Up(K-5):
I will give each student a number. They will go over lining up several times at the beginning of the school year.
I will also develop a memory game to help them remember their numbers. These numbers will be used for
other organizational purposes throughout the year.
o Line up by classroom number
o Stand quietly
o Keep hands to self
Using the Restroom(K-8):
A reminder poster will be hung in the room to help students to remember the appropriate hand symbols.
o Raise hand raising 1 finger
o Sign in and sign out
Getting a Drink from the Fountain(K-8):
All hand symbols will be reviewed at the beginning of the school year. A poster will be hung to remind the
students.
o Students will hold up 2 fingers
o Walk to fountain
o Return to seat and go back to work
Getting a Tissue(K-8):
All hand symbols will be reviewed at the beginning of the school year. A poster will be hung to remind the
students.

Sharpening Pencils(K-8):
I will bring pencil bin to the classroom. Rules will be explained at the beginning of the year for borrowing and
returning pencils.
o Students will borrow a pencil or eraser from the recycling bin in the front of the room
o They have permission to quietly stand up and take supplies when needed
o All supplies will be returned at the end of the lesson
Bathroom Break/ Water Fountain/ Sharpen Pencils /Tissue (High School):
Since high school students are developmentally more independent and responsible for their actions, they may
raise their hand and quietly sign out to use the bathroom and water fountain breaks.
o May raise hand to sharpen pencils.
o May get up quietly to grab a tissue.
Taking Out/Putting Away Supplies(K-8):
I will go over routine at the beginning of the school year. Baskets will be passed around the room clockwise
and specific students will stack them once completed.
o Classroom jobs will be given at the beginning of the week
From the trifold-sticky notes.
o Appropriate individuals will pass out and collet supplies and papers
o High school: since students are developmentally more independent, they may volunteer to take out/put
away supplies.
Passing Out and Collecting Papers:
Jobs are given at the beginning the week. The procedure will be reviewed several times at the beginning of the
year.
o Passing Out: Paper passers will give appropriate number of papers to one person in the group. Group
members will then pass papers around by taking top sheet and giving the stack to the next member.
o Collecting: Papers will be passed to one desk in each group. Paper collector will take each groups
stack of papers and move onto the next group.
o High school: Students may volunteer on their own to pass out and collect papers.

Gaining Students Attention(K-8):


o Clapping will be used to gain students attention.

Handing in Finished Work/Homework (K-8):
School counselor will assign each cluster a different name at the beginning of the year. Some examples are:
Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh, and Flounder. Older groups will be given popular
singers/actors.

o A bin will be placed on the school counselors desk. Each group will bring their work up when their
group is called and put in the bin with a picture of the character.
o Quietly return to seat
Handing in Homework (High school):
o Each row of students will pass assignments up to the front of the rows.
o I will collect each pile
Transitioning to Carpet (K-3):

They will sit while the rest of the class is being called over
Remain seated throughout discussion time

Accommodations for Quick Learners: Challenge Capsules (K-HighSchool):


I will bring a jar full of capsules with challenges inside, each color is a different subject of either academics or
guidance related subjects in career/guidance/personal/social. Some may be fun activities of drawing or puzzles.
Each jar will be developmentally appropriate for the age group that is being taught.
o When a student finishes their current work, they may quietly raise their hand for a capsule that they can
work on until all others are finished.
o Some may choose to create their own challenges to put back in the eggs.
End of Class
I will go over procedures for breaking down classroom. Jobs will also be given to students to make sure all
trash is picked up and classroom is back to its original set-up.

Disciplinary Interventions
Brain Break Chair (K-5)
Rules and description for the chair will be talked about at the beginning of the school year. The class will
discuss together their feelings about it and contribute ideas.
o Students can be asked by the school counselor, or voluntarily use the chair to take a break from
classroom activities
o The chair will not have any negative connotations
o When the school counselor feels that a student needs to take a mental break, she will tell them to go and
relax for a few minutes. Children can rejoin the group when they feel that they are ready
Baseball Strike System (K-3):
Students and school counselor will go over rules at the beginning of the school year. They will discuss as a
group the expectations of the classroom. The group will formulate a poster with rules to hang next to the
dugout.
o Students will start in the dugout

o Each time they go against classroom rules, they will move from the dugout, to strike one, strike two, and
strike three. Once they earn their third strike, students will lose five minutes of recess and strikeout card
will be sent home.
School Counselor-Student Relationships
High Dominance and High Cooperation:
o Help students to feel oriented and grounded.
o Feel successful/earn grade.
o Have fun while remaining respectful.
Accessibility:
o School counselor will be accessible for students both in and out of the classroom.
o Sign will be on the school counselors door to inform others where she is at all times.
o White board will also be hung on school counselors door.
Confidentiality/Respect:
o Students will be informed of confidentiality procedures.
o I will respect all information given to them.
Open-Mindedness:
o I will be unbiased to information discussed with her students.
o Individuals will feel comfortable to talk freely.
Mental Set
Active Listening/Alertness to Classroom Behavior:
The following will allow for the school counselor to react immediately and appropriately to potential behavioral
issues.

School counselor will frequently watch master teachers as a way to help her grow and develop

Group Set-Up:
Appropriate classroom set up will allow for students to interact in groups. Small clusters will allow for all to be
heard and social skills to be practiced frequently.
