On a quest to Quest Garden! by Tia Reynolds
Learning Objectives:
TWBAT understand the ISTE (NETS) technology standards for teachers and
students and how using webquest can be used to fulfill the expectations of
the standard
TWBAT infuse technology into the classroom and the curriculum
TWBAT create a quest garden account and become knowledgeable with the
basic features of the website
Essential Questions:
How can I fulfill the expectations of the ISTE (NETS) technology standards in
my classroom?
How can I navigate & utilize the basic features of the quest garden website?
How can I utilize quest garden to encourage students to use multiple
resources & promote cooperative learning?
NETS-T Standards Addressed:
STANDARD 2: Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and
Assessments. Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning
experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to
maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and
attitudes identified in the NETSS.
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools
and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students
to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting
their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing
their own progress.
c. Customize and personalize learning activities to address students diverse
learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and
resources.

STANDARD 5: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership Teachers


continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and
exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and
demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.
a. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative
applications of technology to improve student learning.
b. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion,
participating in shared decision making and community building, and
developing the leadership and technology skills of others.
c. Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a
regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and
resources in support of student learning.

Workshop Procedure:
1. Begin the workshop by presenting the Learning Objectives & Essential
Questions
2. Have participants take the pre-workshop survey.
3. Pass out the NETS-T and NETS-S Standards. As a group, discuss and rate
where we fall as school according to each standard
4. Present Webquest powerpoint
5. Distribute Quick Quality Webquest handout
6. Display Webquest 4 part tutorial via youtube which introduces participants to
the basic features of the webquest on quest garden. Teachers will follow
along to create their own accounts & explore the website.
7. Display my own webquest, Exploring Native Americans
8. In pairs, have teachers utilize a work period to search quest garden for
webquest that align to their content standards. Have them discuss how they
can modify and enhance the webquest to better fit their classrooms.
9. Finally, have participants take the post-workshop survey.

Evaluation/Assessment:
Informal Assessment: Instructor will observe teachers during the work period to
ensure they are developing a full understanding of quest gardens basic features.
Instructor will also observe teachers to ensure they know how to adequately
enhance and modify the webquest they located on Quest Garden.
Formal Assessment: Teachers will complete the pre- and post-workshop survey.
Instructor will evaluate survey and make necessary notes to follow up with teachers.
