Phase 1
Executive summary:
For our English course we made a survey on Google Froms based on risks that
students of Arteveldehogeschool are willing to take in association with going out,
going to school and making tasks. After evaluating the results most students,
men and women take risks about these subjects.
Introduction:
In this report, we will evaluate our online survey step by step on risks about going
out with friends going to school and making tasks. We will discuss each question
(reason asked, results) using graphs.
Findings:
1

For the first question we divided the class based on what sex they are. From the
17 students of our class53,3% are female and 46.7% are male.As you can see,
from the 17 students of our class are 53.3 % of female and 46.7% are male.

Most of the students go out 2 times a week (56.3%). There are a couple of
students that never go out (12.5%) and also who go out 3 times a week (18.8%).
This shows rather a surprising result that most are going out several times a
week when having classes to attend.

With this question we see a spread result. Most of the students (56.3%) finish
their tasks midweek, 18.8 % finish their task immediately after the task was
given by the lecturer and the other 18.8% finish the day before due date. We can
conclude that most of the students prepare their tasks beforehand and that a
slight part of the students should improve themselves with their planning.

This graphic shows that most of the students drink beer before they go out. We
expected this because beer is the cheapest beverage. What we didnt expect is
that 20% of the students drink wine when they go out. Especially the girls, and
most of the boys drink beer. A miniscule part of the students consume soft drinks
and no one drinks water when they go out. Most of them are afraid of the
reactions of others. The behavior of considering that drinking water is a bad
thing, has to stop.

We asked
this question because
drinking too much
is taking a risk.
The survey
showed us that
a huge 46,7%
even drinks
more than 10
beverages on a
night out.
13,3% drinks one or two, and 40% drinks between 2-10 beverages, which seems
about right.

We asked this because not telling your significant other about a mistake is a
huge risk. You would think that nearly everyone would tell their girlfriend or
boyfriend about a mistake like this, but a considerable 1 in 3 of the
interrogated people answered they wouldnt say a thing and hope their
loved one doesnt find out.

This seemed like a good question because skipping classes is something that
almost every student
does definitely
something that
happens. Half of
the students

answered that they try to go to every class, which means they do occasionally
skip. 31.3% says that they only go to those that include tasks. And a significant
18,8% even says that they only go to the classes that are obligated.

8
Doing this is risky because, like stated in the question, getting caught means at
least a zero score. Maybe even a much worse punishment. As expected, a great
amount of the students (53,3%) answered they would never do that. A
considerable 33,3% would consider it, and 13,3% would probably do it, which

means they would take a huge risk.

This
question
probably
seems like
a bit weird, but we stated possible answers in the options they could click on.
They go from practically doing all the work on your own to not even finishing
the part that you were assigned. As expected, the answers were mostly spread
to I do a lot of work to make sure I get good grades (20%) and I do my own
parts, but control (check, keep an eye on) what my partners do (73,3%). What did
surprise us what that 6,7% just do their own part and dont care about the rest of
the group. But, when looking at the statistics, the 6,7% means that this was only
one person.

10

The graphic shows that an amount of the students choose going out over
working for school. Most of the students rather works for school in the weekends.
This result shows us that some of our colleagues are taking risks, if have a
hangover you wont be able to make the assignments.

11
Even on
this
question, where you expect to get a good answer, the graphic indicates hat
53,3%
of the
students
dont have their books in the beginning
weeks. So most of them dont follow the
lessons properly the first weeks. 26,7% of
the students get their books the first week of
school and 13,3% already have their books even before the semester has
started.
12
We asked this question to elaborate what students think of taking risks. Almost
everyone sees drugs as a
risk. Also a lot of the students see smoking and drinking as a huge risk.
Skipping classes and not writing essays score less
on the graphic.

13

Nowadays students think drinking too much is cool. But a huge part of them
dont know that it could be very dangerous. We made this question because we
were curious about the answers from our fellow students.

14

Fighting can cause some serious injuries, especially when boys are involved.
When you go out in Overpoort, its pretty common that you see some people
fight. This is why we made this question, to see if our fellow students would
participate in a fight or rather run away. We concluded that the participants
would pull the friend away or help them by themselves We concluded that these
results arent spread at all.

15

Nowadays soft drugs are used more often. The results of this question are pretty
good because most of the students have never smoked weed before, and will
never do it. Also a big amount of the students would smoke weed, but only if they
dont have to pay for it.

Conclusion:
The survey showed us that even though not every student takes the same risks,
and students dont always see the same things as risks, there is a tendency of
consistency. There is mostly a small group of students who dont want to take a
risk, and a bigger group that will take risks. The students see drinking a lot of
alcohol as a huge risk, also copying a task is seen as risky. Skipping classes two
weeks in a row seems not that risky.

Phase 2
In this phase were going to discuss which questions have to be dropped, clarified
or added. Plus, well also give the reasons why we changed each of the
questions. We want to publish this survey for a broader audience (the whole
school, not only the students of 2MAR05, so thats the reason why we changed
some questions.
Questions of the survey: target group 2MAR05

1. What sex are you?

2. How many times do you go out (approximately) every week?
3. You have a task to complete (e.g. for English), and seven days until the
due date. When do you start preparing?
4. When you go out, which beverages do you consume?
5. How many beverages would you say you consume?
6. If you go out, and you cheat on your partner, would you tell them or
hope they dont find out?
7. Which classes do you skip?
8. Would you take the risk of copying a (very good) assignment from
someone else, if getting caught meant a score of zero?
9. You have a group assignment,
10. Youve gone out several times this week, and have assignments to
do in the weekend. However, your friends ask you to go out with them.
What do you do?
11. Start of the new school semester. When do you get your books?
12. What of the given answers are taking risks?
13. Have you ever been so drunk, you didnt know what you were doing?
14. Your friend gets in a fight which he cant win. What do you do?
15. Would you smoke weed on a chill night out?
Appendix:
Questions of the survey: target group students of Arteveldehs

1. What sex are you? -> Is a basic question, we wont change it.
2. How many times do you go out (approximately) every week -> This
question is needed for our survey because one of our subjects is
about going out. The only thing that changes is: How many times
do you go out (approximately) in a school week? Because
holidays are not important for our survey.
3. You have a task to complete (e.g. for English), and seven days until
the due date. When do you start preparing? -> This question needs
to be changed. We concluded in our first survey that not preparing a
task isnt seen risky. As this survey is about risks were going to
change the question to: During class, theres a test for the next
week, when do you start studying for the test? The answers
remain the stay. A test will be seen a more risky than not making a
task.
4. When you go out, which beverages do you consume? -> This
question stays also the same but well change some answers to:

Beer, Wine, Wodka, Water or Softdrinks. We only changed liquor to

Wodka because when students drink liquor, it is mostly Wodka.
5. How many beverages do you consume? -> According to us, this
is also a valid question to know how many students are takings risks
while going out with friends.
6. If you go out, and you cheat on your partner, would you tell them or
hope dont find out? -> We will remove this question from our survey
because it isnt relevant to our main subjects. Even though its
anonymous that question can be too personal for some students.
Well make another question more related to the subjects:
Are you influenced by your friends who skip classes regularly?:
o No, I go to every class.
o It depends on what course it is.
o Only if the lesson is not important.
o Most of the time.

7. Which classes do you skip? -> This questions stays as well

because one of our main subjects is about going to school.
8. Would you take the risk of copying a (very good) assignment
from someone else, if getting caught meant a score of zero?
-> We think that this question is a very good question as we
evaluated in our first survey, copying assignments is risky. Also, the
answers were different.
9. You have a group assignment, -> Well change the question because
according to the results, none of the students are willing to take risks
for a group assignment. The new question is : You have to get
home from a party and you know that your friend who is
BOB has drunk 3-5 beers. What do you do? :
o I would call a cab for me and my friend BOB.
o I would call my mom to get me.
o I would go with my friend and take the risk.
10.
Youve gone out several times this week, and have
assignments to do in the weekend. However, your friends
ask you to go out with them. What do you do? -> We will keep
this question because a lot of the students would take the risk going
out and not being able to finish their tasks during the weekend.
11.
Start of the new school semester. When do you get your
books? -> The answers for this question surprised us because the
results were spread. The question stays the same as well.
12.
What of the given answers are taking risks? -> With
this question we literally asked what risks are.
13.
Have you ever been so drunk, you didnt know what you
were doing? -> This is also an important question because getting
too drunk is very bad for your brain and health. When you drink too
much you wont be able to go to school or your brain wont function
that good.
14.
Your friend gets in a fight which he cant win. What do you do?
-> This question is not that relevant to our survey so we changed it
to : Would you consider drugs while you are drunk? Which?
o None

o Marihuana
o Coke
o MDMA
Well use this question because in question 12 we asked what things
are seen as risks and most of the students chose drugs.
15.
Would you smoke weed on a chill night out? -> Because we
changed question 14, we also have to change question 15. A more
relevant question for one of our main subjects: Have you ever
done something illegal while youre drunk?
o short answer
