Stalk Blocking

• Stalk blocking is nothing but attitude!

• Have to sell a “team attitude” – why should OL work hard in pass
protection if WRs aren’t working hard blocking on the perimeter?
• Try to get 1 guy with reckless abandon to buy in. Great blocking by the
WRs is infectious. Once one guy starts doing it and getting accolades for
it, the others will follow.

Progression

• Fit Position
○ Weight on inside of feet
○ Hands on breast plate below the nipples
• 1 Step to Fit
• Punch – elbow tight to body and thumbs up
• Leverage Drill

DB
Cone Cone
WR
Cones should be 10 yards apart. DB is going to run back and forth, changing
direction quickly. WR needs to shadow the DB, staying strong to the outside.
(old OL mirror drill)

• Mirror Score – same drill as above except cones get moved in to six
yards and the DB needs to get inside of the cones. WR works his
technique and keeps him out
• 5-yard rule: Key to stalk blocking! Receiver must sell pass on every
down. As soon as the DB recognizes run and plants to come forward, the
WR needs to break down 5 yards from the DB. Keep separation and
don’t overrun the block. Always keep shoulders square to the LOS!
• Big Run – RB breaks a big run, WR practices running downfield with his
hand on the DB’s inside number
