Final Reflection
Throughout the semester, during each sequence, there have been a lot of concepts that I
have learned more about and learned for the first time. During sequence one, I learned about
instruction sets, plagiarism, and about various instruction sets in different career fields. Within
sequence two, I learned about researching and how to develop a research or analytical report that
is directed towards a professional audience. Finally during the third sequence, I learned how to
construct a resume, a cover letter, and a proposal. I feel like with each sequence I have really
discovered what various forms of technical writing are required in the workforce, and I am glad
that I have gained this necessary information. After having completed all of the major projects, I
have looked back over the analytical report, proposal, and instruction set in order to revise them
according to the four student learning outcomes.
Regarding my analytical report, the discussion posts, journal entries, and readings all
helped me build up to writing this report. Specifically the discussion post on chapter 7 helped me
fully understand plagiarism, and how to avoid it entirely. The journal entries for this sequence
sequence forced me to do the preliminary research a step at a time. Specifically the discussion
post on project 2 during sequence two had us summarize the issue in our field and post our
specific research question. Then the second post has us outline our research method. Planning
out the research of the project helped me build off of the student learning outcome analyzing the
rhetorical situation as well as finding and evaluating information. The discussion post on chapter

10 called for me to explain the process of constructing a research report. This post and the
journal entries helped me understand the rhetorical situation further through the various
examples of research reports. The revisions I made to my analytical report addressed the student
learning outcome of composing and presenting the information. I made sure that I conveyed my
research properly and included graphs and charts to help further explain my report. My
progression as a writer, specifically in research reports, has improved since I pay more attention
to detail in the composition and presentation of my ideas.
For the instruction set, I accomplished all four of the student learning outcomes building
up to the project through the discussion posts, journal entries, and readings. The first student
learning outcome, analyzing the rhetorical situation, I utilized in reading the prompt for the
instruction set to understand what I would be required to write. Then for the discussion post on
the project I was able to compose what I would be using for my recipe and how it related to my
culture. I have had to analyze the rhetorical situation or audience, subject, and purpose of the
discussion posts as well as the journal entries in order to fully address the prompts with all of my
projects as well. For the second outcome, finding and evaluating information I used this outcome
for my journal entries in order to start constructing my instruction set. I had to locate a recipe and
do background research on the history of the food. Thirdly, I used the outcome of composing the
information within my journal entries and my project. I had to put together the original recipe
and then alter it to make it my own recipe. Then I had to compose the history that I found on the
food into my own words. Finally I had to present the information of my recipe within a video. I
also had to put forth the information I had written in an organized and coherent manner to better
present my findings and opinion. While revising my instruction set I worked on my in-text
citations which falls under the student learning outcome of composing information. I had to

make sure that all of my sources were cited. I have improved as a writer following this project
since I am able to incorporate all of the preceding student learning outcomes in my writing,
specifically the instruction set.
For the last project, the proposal, I met all of the student learning outcomes through the
journal entries, readings, and discussion posts leading up to it. The first student learning
outcome, analyzing the rhetorical situation, I have utilized for the chapter 8 reading on various
proposals in the workplace. This allowed me to fully understand what a proposal is and how I
will be able to construct one according to my previous research project. For this project, I had to
analyze the rhetorical situation or audience, subject, and purpose of the discussion posts as well
as the journal entries in order to fully address the prompt. For the second outcome, find and
evaluate information I used this outcome for my journal entries in order to start constructing
project #3. The discussion post on chapter 8 allowed me to further explain the issue within my
field of research and what proposals I had in order to help or solve the issue. With this discussion
post I met the student learning outcome of finding and evaluating information since I had to refer
to the research I conducted in my second project. Then I began more research by locating
scholarly resources that I could use in order to broaden my proposal. Thirdly, I used the outcome
of composing the information within my journal entries and my project. I had to put the research
I found into my own words and explain my proposals to the problem I chose during the second
sequence. Specifically with the proposal I had to compose information from my research project
to address one part of the project and build off of it. Finally presenting the information, I had to
put forth the information I had written in an organized and coherent manner to better present my
findings and opinion. While revising this project, I had to go back and make the paper more of a
proposal in appearance. Originally it was in the style of a professional essay; however, I had to

add headings in bold and number the steps. This helped me address the outcomes of composing
and presenting the information. I have progressed as a writer because I understand how a
proposal should be presented more clearly now.
I can most definitely apply what I have learned this semester into the workplace. For the
rest of my life I'll have to be writing technical documents such as proposals, resumes, cover
letters, instructions sets, and research projects. All of the concepts and learning outcomes that I
have developed and learned more about during the course I will apply to future job opportunities.
