Course Description
Math: SE Math I, II, III, IV
This course is designed to teach skills that will increase the students ability to read, write,
compute, and solve problems using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
The operational areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are emphasized in a
practical real world context to provide the students a link between
their everyday lives and the use of mathematics. In addition Math II will learn calculators skills,
measurements, and money skills. Math III and Math IV will focus on personal money
management and banking skills.
Course codes LSMA101, LSMA201, LSMA301, LSMA401
Course Objectives
Standard 3.OA.3: Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal
groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown
number to represent the problem.
Standard4.NBT.4: Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Standard 4.NF.3a: Understand a fraction a/b with a > 1 as a sum of fractions 1/b: Understand addition and
subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.
Standard 5.NF.4a: Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole
number by a fraction: Interpret the product (a/b) q as a parts of a partition of q into b equal parts; equivalently, as
the result of a sequence of operations a q b. For example, use a visual fraction model to show (2/3) 4 = 8/3,
and create a story context for this equation. Do the same with (2/3) (4/5) = 8/15. (In general, (a/b) (c/d) = ac/
bd.)

Quarterly Skills
Quarterly skills will be focused on preparing students for their alternate assessment given at
the end of the school year. The skills below will be addressed and may take more than one
quarter to complete because each student is different and move at a different pace.
Math:
9th: Apply laws of exponents and solve problems with units or scales.
10th:Add/subtract 2 by 2 or 3 by 3 matrices and find measurements indirectly from a scale
drawing.
th
11 :Find the magnitude and direction of vectors and use formulas to find measurements.
12th:Find the points on the complex plane and find the surface areas and volumes of prisms,
cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres.
Learning Outcomes/Learning Targets
Besides learning their current level math and word problems, students will learn concepts their
grade level peers are learning in the general education class (mentioned in quarterly skills). In
addition, students will be working on meeting their goals stated in their individual education
program (IEP).
Service Learning ( students can also visit www.guamservicelearning.com for more
opportunities to earn service learning hours.
Students in grades 9th-12th are required to complete service learning hours to fulfill
graduation requirements. All students in Special Education Program have the opportunity to
earn up to 10 hours during our Special Olympics practice. Practice sessions will be held twice a
week during the second half of lunch from February to March. Students will be able to earn 8
more hours during Special Olympics for Track and Field in April.
Classroom Rules: (Prompt, Prepare, Polite, Passing, and Proud)

Class work and Home Work (45%):

Participation includes cooperation, following directions, time on task, assignments, and trials
for concepts taught.
Test/Assessments (45%):
Assessments will be completed by the teacher through observation, teacher documentation, or
students work.
Quiz (10%):
Students will be quizzed to gauge their understanding of the materials being presented.
Quizzes are normally about 25% of the skills that will be tested.
Homework and Make-up work
Students with excused absences have the opportunity to complete assignments they have
missed in class. It is the students responsibility to ask for missed assignment(s). Students will
be given a week to complete missed work. Teacher will reserve the right to extend or reduce
the amount of time given for make up based on students skill level and the amount of work
missed.

Discipline Intervention
Parents will receive a note or a phone call from the teacher if there are any concerns regarding
inappropriate behavior. If the inappropriate behavior continues and all interventions have been
taken, then a referral will be turned in to the administrator.
Attendance
Students that accumulate 6 days of unexcused absences will receive no credit for the
semester. Parent notes may be written when a student is absent and only 6 days are allowed to
be excused for one semester. If the student is absent for 3 consecutive days, a doctors note is
needed to excuse the absences. When a student accumulates 3 unexcused tardies, the student
will receive 1 unexcused absence. (BP330, and BP411)
Field Trip Policy
Field trips forms have to be signed by the parent and the teachers (for the classes they will be
missing) for the student to participate in the field trip. They will also have to be in full uniform.
Materials and Worksheets
Folder paper, pencils, erasers, two pocket folder, and calculator. Students should bring
something to help them keep stay warm. Teacher use different practice worksheets and
application word problems from different websites (aplusmath, mathdrill). Parents are
encouraged to use these sites for practice at home.
