Opinion piece
The Second Amendment is like a Holy Bible for Americans. In 2015,
firearms in the United States killed 13,286 people. People say they carry guns
as protection, but are the societies so uncomfortable that it is necessary?
America is the country in the World with most gun violence, and that
can all be related to the right of keep and bear arms. Me personally am from a
country, where the only guns you see are the polices. I had never seen a gun
on the street that did not belong to the police, before I came to the United
States.
Americans do not believe me when I tell them that it is true. And
why is that? I believe it is a part of a cultural difference. Gun violence is almost
non-existing in Denmark, but sky high here in the United States. I am aware of
the fact that America is way bigger than Denmark, but when you compare guns
per 100 resident America has 7 times the amount of guns. One thing is that I
do not necessarily understand why guns are necessary in the townscape, but
one thing I do not understand or respect for that matter, is that the Second
Amendment is such an integrated part of the American culture. The cultural
aspect is tough to change here in the United States, because the right to carry
guns was one of the biggest reasons to declare the countrys independence in
1776.
Politicians have tried to regulate laws, but it is not realistic that laws
and regulations alone would produce a civilized society. Laws and regulations
can most definitely help reducing the gun violence, but it cannot help change
the state of mind and culture within America.
I will never own a gun; I do not feel uncomfortable in the society. I
believe in the good of every people and I do not believe that people want to
hurt each other (even though it might sound a little clich). It is a matter of a
change in culture, which will take a lot of time and dedication toward a better
America, but it is possible. Everyone should reach a point where you can feel
safe and trust the society you are engaged in. It is important for Americans to
tremble to other countries and realize that an effort needs to be done
because guns is dangerous in the hands of people with a wicked state of mind

(even though I see the good in people). The United States should strive for a
nation without guns in the long perspective - even though the journey will be
long - because, a nation without guns is most definitely safer than one with
guns.
