Purpose: Add La to the other solfege hand signs (Sol and
Mi)

Standards: 2.3.A

Opening Activity: You’ve got a Friend in Me
Transition: Sing Tinga Layo
Main Activity: Look at Tinga Layo to see how la looks with sol and mi, keep the steady beat with
rhythm sticks as some students use sol-la-mi to sing the song and then rotate
Closing/Reflection: Sing “Take me out to the Ball game”

Assessment: See if students are able to correctly identify La when combined
with sol and mi

Main Activity: Sing other songs that have sol and mi in them and have students identify when they
hear a sol and mi pattern
Closing/Reflection: Look at music in a book and have students point at sol and mi

Assessment: See if students are able to respond when asked what Sol and
Mi are individually

Opening Activity: The Farmer in the Dell – sings and has students take turns being different
characters
Transition: Sing “The Muffin Man”
Main Activity: Look at the big book and look at songs and pictures to practice what items are the
same and different and also what sounds are the same and what sounds are different in songs
Closing/Reflection: Keep steady beat with rhythm sticks for songs

Assessment: Call on students to see if they are able to correctly identify
when two things are the same or different

Purpose: To help students focus on rhythms and understand
them

Opening Activity: Have students practice speaking rhythms on PowerPoint
Transition: As students better understand the rhythms pass out instruments to practice with
Main Activity: Review the recorder and begin to discuss the way the rhythms will be when we
begin to actually play the rhythms
Closing/Reflection: Review with students what we have went over for the day

Assessment: See if students are able to correctly speak the rhythms and
understand them

Closing/Reflection: Ask students to perform as if it were the program

Assessment: See if students are performing at the level they should be and
are doing their best
