Lesson Development:
This lesson is going to be an
activity based lesson, getting
the students to actively
participate in the lesson and
what is being learnt.
Students will be shown a
trailer for a documentary
titled 638 ways to kill
Castro, this will provide
students
with
a
very
short/basic introduction to the
topic.
Students will then be given a
short task to complete on the
assassination attempts made
on Fidel Castros life postrevolutionary Cuba. This will
include the students reading
through some of the most
famous
assassination
attempts. Next students will
be ask to come up with their
own
assassination
plot
against Castro (descriptive
but short these will be
collected before the end of
the lesson).
Finally the students will be
asked to participate in a

is in the form of a verbal

exchange between teacher
and students.
The
students
will
hopefully be engaged
with this lesson and find
it interesting/different to
the ways in which they
normally learn.
The students will find
this topic interesting
and
at
sometimes
unbelievable (some of
the assassination plots
are ridiculous). Students
will be able to let their
imaginations run a little
bit wild (but staying
within reason) to create
a new story/plot against
one of the hardest men
to kill in history.
Students will hopefully
be
engaged
and
interested in the game.

The teachers role is to

guide
the
lesson
through
the
introduction of the topic
and
prepare
the
students
for
the
activities ahead.
The teacher will wander
around the class and
engage
with
the
students
with
their
plans to kill Castro.
For the final activity of
the
lesson,
the
teachers role will be to
officiate the game.

The goal of this stage of

the lesson will definitely be
the
students
engagement/interest in the
activities. This will be
measured
by
their
attitudes/willingness
to
participate in all activities
planned for the lesson.
An informal method of
evaluation
will
be
collecting
the
students
assassination plots and
reading
through
them,
making sure that the
students understood the
task and completed it
correctly.

game Who killed Castro?

This activity/game is based
on the classic board game
Cluedo. Students will move
into teams and will then take
turns guessing who killed
Castro, how/with what and
where?

Closure:
This part of the lesson will be
about
consolidation
and
direction for the upcoming
lessons on the final stage of
this overall topic (The Cold
War Cuba).

Students will participate

in the closing stages of
the lesson by joining in
the discussion about
the topic and whats to
come next.

The
teachers
role
during
this
closing
stage will be to finalise
this topic area and
provide an insight into
what
next
weeks
lessons will consist of.

A goal of this stage of the

lesson will be the students
closing discussions on the
topic
and
the
understanding of where the
topic was heading in the
coming lessons.
