Youaretakingatestandontheteachersdeskistheanswersheet.Youaresittingclose
enoughthatyoucanseewhatitsays.Nooneelseislookingandthistestwillhelpdetermine
yourentirefuturebyallowingyoutogainafullridescholarshiptothecollegeofyourdreams.
Wouldyoutakealook?Thismightbeanextremecasebutstudentsarefacedwiththisissueon
adaytodaybasis:tocheatornottocheat.
Studentstodayhavetoomuchpressuretoperformwellinschool.Theyaretoldtheir
entirefutureisdependantontheirgrades.Thiscanleadtosomedishonestyinthepublicschool
system.Whenkidsbelieveatestwilldeterminealloftheirfuturesuccessinlifeitisvery
temptingtocheat.Humansnaturallylovetolearnbutschoolscangivestudentssomanytests
thatitcantakethejoyoutoflearningandleavestudentswithanapatheticattitude.This
apatheticattitudecanalsoleadtoanattitudethatcheatingisokay.Whenstudentscheatonatest
anddowell,teachersassumethattheyhavelearned,butinfactstudentshaventtrulylearned.In

project,thecourseworkandtheprojectcanbedoneatthesametime.Studentscanworkonboth
thingsatonceandpresenttheirprojectsattheendoftheunit.Yesprojectstakelongertodobut
theycanbegivenatthebeginningoftheunitandsubmittedattheendsotheunitcantakethe
sameamountwithaprojectthatitwouldwithatest.

Testsarentaneffectivewayofdetermininghowmuchastudentknows.Somestudents
gettestanxietyandcantperformwellonatesteveniftheyunderstandtheconcepts.Projects
createanopportunityforstudentstoshowtheirunderstandinginamorecomfortablesettingand
cancreateopportunitiesforstudentstobemorecreativeandinvestedintheirschoolwork.This
allowsstudentstoretainmoreinformationforalongertimeratherthansimplymemorizing
somethingforatest.
