World War II (WWII) World War II and the Cold War were two very different types of wars. The US, Great Britain, China, and the Soviet Union joined forces in WWII as the Allied powers against the Axis powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was formed when Canada. America had to intervene in such a way to leave China and the Soviet union uninvolved. Belgium. The Soviets did so.Ideology and Policies Americans were afraid that the war would leave a shattered Europe vulnerable to a Soviet invasion. France. and Italy. as they had promised neutrality as long as their territorial borders were respected. As many countries believed that they must unite to prevent the major powers from invading smaller countries. Communist China threw its support behind the Soviet Union. France. and people everywhere followed its progression on television. challenged the Chinese military personally. the radio. MacArthur.000 Chinese troops forced the Korean and American forces back over the 38th parallel. or the newspaper. To prevent a Soviet take-over of Germany. they formed a defense pact. When Communist North Korea crossed the 38th parallel and tried to invade South Korea. 400. the Netherlands. America intervened to prevent WWIII. The Cold War The Cold War was publicly discussed all over the world. Britain. and the US united against the threat of Soviet invasion. The Korean War raged until the UN member states and the Communists signed a treaty that declared Communism contained to South Korea. America knew that the war left them the only country powerful enough to keep communism from spreading-. when Communists approached the Chinese border. and Poland sided with America against Soviet Communism. Britain. 2 America sent military and economic aid to countries like Turkey and Greece. Truman had no choice but to fire MacArthur for insubordination and for openly inviting war.America also knew that no other country would be able to put up a fight against Soviet aggression. . he withdrew this threat. France. Though President Truman publicly threatened the atomic bomb. though. Soon.
