SONIC LOG

INSTRUMENTATION
C

• T = transmitter • R = receiver • ABC = TR1 path • ABD = TR2 pat .

2 receiver. 2 transmitter. 8 closed spacing receiver .Sonic Tools  Bottom Hole Compensated (BHC) Sonic log with 2 transmitter and 2 receiver to compensate effects from tool’s tilt or borehole  Array Sonic Tool Combination of BHC and LSS Tools.

How does it work? • Sonic Log Instrumentation uses the refraction of the waves on formation • Transmitter emits pressure pulse • Wave as the result of the pulse spread through formation to receiver • Instrument measure the time travel .

Porosity Evaluation Using the “Wyllie Formula” (1958)  For the COMPACT and PORES rock .

 For the non-compact rocks .

Porosity vs. Interval Transit Time .
