HMC Installation and data backup & restore

HMC V7R7.3.0.2
HMC Installation on IBM x3550 server
1.
Download the HMC OS and latest service pack from ibm website..
http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/options
Select product group >>Systems
Select from Systems >> Power
Select Product
>> Firmware, SDMC and HMC
Machine Type-model >> 9125-F2A
After selecting all option click on continue

Select HMC Firmware, Obtain HMC Recovery images, service packs, and
specific fixes.
After selecting the option click continue

Select HMC OS Version V7R7.3.0.
After selecting the version click continue
4.
Select HMC Recovery image V7R7.3.0M0 and Release update package
V7R7.3.0M0 and all what you want.
After selecting the option click continue

Accept License Agreements
Click on I agree

Sign in by using IBM Login id and Password

Select Download ISO image to burn to media

Click on Submit
After selecting the option click continue
8.
Download HMC OS
8.1 install iso for upgrade V7R7.3.0M0 1
8.2 install iso for upgrade V7R7.3.0M0 2
9.
Download ISO image and Burn to DVD
10. Power on the server and insert the CD-1 in the Drive and boot the server by
DVD-RAM.
11. OS installation will start automatically
12. After some time GUI window will open and will ask to choose one of the
following options
12.1
Backup over network
12.2
Restore over network
12.3
Upgrade
12.4
Install

Select install and enter to next


13. Select Installation source
13.1
Install from media
13.2
Install from network
Select Install from media and click to next
14. Click Finish to confirm all selections
15. Installation progress .
16. After installation of cd-1 it will ask to select one of the following options
16.1
Install additional software from media
16.2
Finish the installation at a later time
Insert CD-2 and Enter value 1 for install additional software from media and press enter
to continue
17. After installing the CD-2 it will ask to select one of the following options
17.1
Restore Critical Console data (Install only)
17.2
Restore upgrade data (upgrade from older version/release)
17.3
Finish the Installation
Enter value 3 for Finish the OS installation and press enter to continue
18. Select value 2 for Do not change keyboard layout and do not run this program
again on the next system boot.

19. Accept License Agreement for Machine code


20. Initialization is in progress will generate the HMC login Window
21. ON HMC Guide Setup Window Uncheck the Show this screen again when I
sign on to HMC option and click on No if yes then it will give the option to
configure language, date & time, network ip address etc..
22. ON HMC Electronic Service Agent Window Uncheck the Show this screen
again when I sign on to HMC option and click on No if yes then it will give the
option to configure Electronic Service Agent (ESA).
23. login window look like as Enter User id as hscroot and password abc123

24. Now HMC is ready for use

HMC BACKUP & RESTORE


Backup
25. To take the backup click on the HMC Management in the navigation menu and
Select Backup HMC data from details menu
26. Select one of the following options
26.1
Back up to media on local system
26.2
Back up to mounted remote system
26.3
Send back up critical data to remote site
Select Backup to media on local system
27. Insert blank DVD-RAM in local DVD-RAM Drive and Select DVD-RAM
Drive to take the backup then click ok to continue.
28. Add the description about the backup.
29. Backup will start on local DVD-RAM it will take approx 1.30 hours to
complete the backup then Finish

Restore
30. To Restore the backup click on the HMC Management in the navigation menu
and Select Restore HMC data from details menu
31. Select one of the following option to restore data
31.1
Restore from remote NFS server
31.2
Restore from remote FTP server
31.3
Restore from removable media

32. Prompt will ask to confirm click yes to continue


33. Process will ask to reboot the machine and data will restore at the booting
time.
34. Select Restart HMC and click OK then manually restart the HMC
