2.2.1

Selecting managed objects

In Report Builder as well as in Report Explorer, the selection of managed
objects has changed taking into consideration managed object history.
You can select only the managed objects created/existed during the
reporting period.
This change in the managed object selection by using object history,
obhcremx.pl will refresh the managed object history table
roh_utp_commin_objects once an hour instead of only once a day. Thus,
newly added or re-hosted objects will be available for reports after a
maximum delay of one hour.

3.1.2

Thresholder and Profiler

From OSS_CD_1347 onwards, the first version of Thresholder and Profiler
application is available. It offers an easy and powerful way of threshold
definition with seamless integration of profile data, high scalability and a
range of notification methods, for example, via e-mail or SMS. Thresholder
and Profiler allows PM thresholding based on key performance indicators
(KPIs) available in the NetAct Reporter database or on formulas defined
with Report Builder application. This includes data from multi-vendor
equipment integrated into the NetAct cluster. When defining a new
thresholding report, the user decides about relevant object levels and time
granularity. The application is available in both the Regional Cluster and
the Global Cluster.
For more information, see Thresholder and Profiler in Service Quality
Manager Principles and Administering Thresholder and Profiler.

3.2

Changes to existing functionality

This section describes the changes in NetAct Reporter in OSS4.1 CD Set
2 in more detail.

3.2.1

14 (38)

Measurement processing
.

Starting from this release, selective summarisation can be used with

every PM adaptation. In earlier releases this was possible only for
data belonging to the Nokia BSS PM adaptation. With selective
summarisation it is possible to aggregate delayed data. In case of
delayed data, the aggregation takes place for only those managed
objects from which the delayed data arrived. Also, the time needed
for aggregation can be shortened because the summarisation is
done selectively.

Parallel summarisation improves performance by executing the

aggregation tasks in parallel. Parallel aggregation is supported for
the PM adaptations.

5.1.1

Reporter Admin Toolkit

From OSS4.1 onwards, NetAct Reporter includes the Administration of
Aggregates tool, which is a Reporter Admin Toolkit application for
administering aggregates.
In addition, you can use the tool for deactivating the aggregation of certain
measurement types to save resources. To achieve this, you can configure
customised aggregation of these measurement types both for the
Regional Clusters (RCs) and for the Global Cluster (GC). Also, you can
configure forwarding these measurement types from the RCs to the GC.
You can use the Administration of Aggregates tool to do the following:
.

activate or deactivate the aggregation of measurement data in the

Regional Cluster or Global Cluster

activate or deactivate the raw data forwarding from the Regional

Cluster to the Global Cluster

shift the location of aggregation from the Regional Cluster to the

Global Cluster, or from the Global Cluster to the Regional Cluster

For more information, see Reporter Admin Toolkit Online Help.

5.1.2

Web Scripting Platform

From OSS_CD_1274 onwards, Nokia NetAct includes Web Scripting
Platform.

Changes in OSS4.1

Web Scripting is an optional NetAct development environment for creating

customised web pages and web applications with the Java Server Pages
(JSP) technology to automate various operator business processes. To
support reporting, you can create textual, tabular, or graphical reports with
Web Scripting and you can create a customised reporting interface to
visualise your reports. Web Scripting Platform includes an Add-On
Manager that allows you to deploy applications that were developed with
the application on NetAct Servers.
For more information, see 1 Web Scripting Platform in Reporter and
Performance Management Principles and the documentation embedded in
the application.

PM Data Extraction and Loading (ETLOAD)

From OSS4 Base Release onwards, data processing is handled by PM
Data Extraction and Loading, a uniform processing and database insertion
solution for PM adaptations that have been integrated to Nokia NetAct.

Note
Measurement data from 2G Adaptation (2G SGSN, 2G BSS, and NSS
that uses OSI DCN) is not processed by PM Data Extraction and
Loading.

The changes also affected processes that had already belonged to

Reporter. The following table summarises the changes at the process
level. For information on PM Data Extraction and Loading, see 1
Measurement processing data flow in Reporter and Performance
Management Technical Reference Guide.

Report Builder
Changes in Report Builder in OSS4 Base Release
From OSS4 Base Release onwards, you can set permissions to Reporter
nodes in two different ways. These permission setups replace the Read/
Modify/Control options that were available through Report Builder in
OSS3.1.
If you have administrator privileges, you can set the permission of
Reporter nodes, that is, elements of the Report Tree and the PI Tree (PI/
KPIs or formulas, URLs, reports, and folders). By default, the nodes inherit
the permission value from their parent node. If you want to assign a
different permission to a node, you can do it manually in Report Builder in
the following ways

Issue 6-0 en

Changes in OSS4

Private/Public approach
You can set the nodes so that everybody can see or even modify
them (Public Read and Public Modify, respectively), or to Private
so that only the owner and the administrator can see and modify
them. You must use the same setting for all nodes. The approach
has to be considered in the beginning, because you cannot switch to
another mode afterwards.

Role-based approach
You can set a node so that users who are assigned the same NetAct
role can either read or modify it, or have no permission to it at all.
Administrators have to create user groups and roles for the users of
the Reporter applications with NetAct Permission Manager before
the users can log into Report Builder and access nodes or modify
permissions to nodes. In addition to administrators, users with
modify permissions to a node can assign permissions for the node to
other users.

6.2.10

Reporter Alarm Statistics

From OSS4 Base Release onwards, NetAct Reporter supports a default
report set for fault management information in Reporter Alarm Statistics.
The alarm parameters, for example alarm text or acknowledging user, are
available as dimensions in other Reporter applications, for example in
Report Builder and KPI Browser.
For more information, see 1 FM Reports and Reporter Alarm Statistics in
Reporter and Performance Management Principles and 1 Reporter Alarm
Statistics tables in Database Description for Reporter Object History and
Alarm Statistics.

6.2.11

Reporter Object History

From OSS4 Base Release onwards, NetAct Reporter supports a default
report set for RAC and topology information in Reporter Object History.
The change information on RAC parameters are available as dimensions
in other Reporter applications, for example in Report Builder.
From OSS_CD_0758 onwards, Reporter Object History supports BTS Rehoming: keys are updated daily in the relevant measurement tables at the
BTS and TRX level if BTS Re-homing has occurred in the cluster.
For more information, see 1 Using historical MO and parameter data for
measurement processing in Reporter and Performance Management
Principles and 1 Reporter Object History tables in Database Description
Reporter Object History and Alarm Statistics.

Reporting Suites
In a series of Change Deliveries on top of OSS4 Base Release, Reporting
Suites were reintroduced on top of the enhanced System Platform of
OSS4.
The following table summarises in which CD delivery Reporting Suites
components have been implemented. FRS stands for Reporting Suites

6.2.13

Thresholds for Measurements

From OSS_CD_0799 onwards, Thresholds for Measurement supports the
use of Global ID as network identifier.
The support is introduced because of the PM structure changes between
the MSC releases M11 and M12. Furthermore, the solution is a generic
enhancement to defining and monitoring thresholds for measurements: all
adaptations have to provide mapping if the object identifier column is other
than INT_ID and MOC information if they support new managed object
classes.
For more information, see Thresholds for Measurements Help.
